Ken, I would like to enter an insect that lives in my pond; Asellus species ( Water Louse )
Thank you!
I need the family Crustacea, order Isopoda..
Myriam,
I have not been able to establish the family for your Water Louse.
Crustacea is the Class name, and Isopoda is the name of the Order. It is Order and Family that we use in BugFiles.
We have 3 families of Isopoda represented.
I tried to find Asellus, but all the references I found only gave the Class and Order!
I think it might be in the family Asellidae, but I am unable to confirm that so far.
Can you uncover its family name? If you can I will create a BugFiles entry to introduce the family,
Ken
Sorry Myriam, I had accidentally limited my search to Australia. I have now established that the genus Asellus is indeed in the family Asellidae.
I have therefore introduced the family by adding an entry for Asellus sp. here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/5307/
Ken
Oh sorry Ken, I made such a crucial fault :-{ to confuse the family with the Class, I had based myself on a school instruction sheet that didn't give the family but a 'group-name' so I thought they meant family with that.
Now I found out that its name is actually Asellus aquaticus;

it is good that you have the name. I wondered whether it was Asellus aquaticus, when I was searching for the family name.
I have changed the entry to Asellus aquaticus and have added your image into the index to represent the new family: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/browse/order.php?bid=325
Ken
Thanks Ken!
