veeeerrry nice, and these came from where? And any pics of the Mother Plants ? How exciting! ;D

hi joeswife... this is a new venture for me so i do not have the mother plants...

the leptophylla came from a German seed company... but it is an American species sometimes called "bush morning glory" or "man root" it gets a very large edible tap root, up to 1 foot in diameter and several feet long.

species 001 from the same seed company... is unknown but is possibly the species being sold as pubescens in Europe and is possibly an African species (again with a tap root)

the costata were from and Austrailian ebayer, are native to that country and is known as the "bush potato" it also has a large edible tap root. they require special treatment in order to get them to germinate:
the supplier forwarded me these instructions: "Ipomoea costata seeds need a hot water scarification prior to sowing. Place the seeds in a mug and cover with boiling water, allow to soak for several hours. Remove any swollen or cracked seeds and sow them. Repeat the process with any seeds that do not swell. Sow summer or on a heat matt. Seeds are prone to rot and need hot conditions with low humidity to germinate. Seedlings are tolerant of high humidity."

i plan to grow them in the 'caudex' style... that is to grow them on, then gradually expose the root as the plant ages... i've seen them grown in a variety of styles but prefer the 'bonsai-ish/Japanese-ish' effects that some growers are getting.

i have ordered a few "unknown" species and i want to use this thread to post pics of their seeds, cotyledons, leaves etc. with the hope of identifying them. i also want to share my excitement...lol

many thanks
colin

Colin - Those look like some serious caudiciform plants...nice big healthy roots... (!)

The quality of the plants looks excellent...

I'm surprised to see such healthy looking caudices...lucky they are so easy to obtain for those people living within the European community...

Too bad they are 'difficult' to obtain in the USA without a Plant Import Permit...

TTY,...

Ron

thanks ron... i was surprised by the size and quality myself... i will definatley use that site again. i just hope i get seeds to share :-)

thanks patootie... can't wait till i have the blooms in front of me :-)

these are for my mother... i think i'll grow them on a bit tho'....lol

i've read that i indica clones are usually self incompatable... so i'm hoping these two will get together and make seeds...

I see nothing wrong with decorating up your plants with a face.. wold be kinda fun, that way when u talk to it it at least looks at you! LOL I saw a SNL episode with a moviestar actor, chris walkin, and he was surrounded by plants, they all had googlie eyes on them and it was a hoot..
