Greetings,
I have a couple of cypresses (one is blue and one is green, with yellow edging) that are about 4 or 5' tall. Both of these specimens have developed a dual trunk at about 12 inches off of the ground.
I want to cut out one of the 'branches' so that the trees will develop a central leader. In the process, I would like to try to take the left-overs (the stray branch is a few feet long) and try to root them.
I am looking for the best time to do this.
thanks!

Evergreen Rootings
This WSU manual is a great reference for propagating various trees from cuttings and goes into specifics about the different sorts of cuttings and which work best for different kinds of trees:

I'm not sure that they mention true cypresses in particular, but it might give you some ideas. Best of luck with the pruning.
