Help with what I thought was Belo Horizontal Lily

Moline, IL(Zone 5a)

I put this in the identifing plants section, with no response. This tag was with the plant that I thought was Belo Horizontal Lily.

But this is the plant that I thought was Belo Horizontal Lily. I have been told that it may not be that.

Most of the characteristics are similar, how long has it been in the ground?

I have found that sometimes it takes a year or so to fully adapt and show all of the colors. Tinos is a good example.

It looks healthy and is very pretty, so even if it has the wrong name it would still be a delight in the garden.

Thanks Lilyfan

I have had it for at least 5 years. I have split it twice and now have about 6 plants. I love it dearly and would be heartbroken if any of them die. I thought I had gotten it at a nursery, but I see the tag says Lowes on it. I think it was mis-tagged.

Unfortunately mis-labeled seems to be a very common occurance with the big box stores.

I looked to see if Belo or Belo Horizontal were registered, they are not.

No matter... it is still a very pretty lily, I'm partial to speckles and spots :-)

It is a very nice lily! :) I like speckles and spots too!

I believe Belo Horizonte was part of a co-op this Spring (?) but I can't seem to find a working link for it.

Thanks Ticker, I really love this plant. It is so hardy and lasts so long.

Moby, I have not been able to find very much on it, except what is listed here in Dave's Garden.

Good find, nanny! The problem with your link is that you need to put a space before the 'http....' part.

Looks like you got a Yellow Pixie.

This is a picture of the Sun Pixie (Yellow) Asiatic Lily, that I have. It is way smaller than the other lily. The one that I thought was Belo has a flower that is about 7" big. The flower can last way over a month and if you cut it to put it in a vase, it lasts at least 2 weeks or more.

Maybe I have a Mutant Lily.

Thanks everyone.

SueME,

Yeah, I actually have both. So I know what you're saying. I'm a collector of sorts!

If you didn't pay more than $4 for it, then, you didn't lose anything. Is it just now blooming? Wrong time of the year for it to bloom.

Nope both of them are dormant now. All the flowers have died off for the year.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Your "Sun Pixie" may very well have a smaller bloom. But here is the "Yellow Pixie" which I believe you have instead of the Belo. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/63924/

SueME - mine came from a very reliable bulb source and though it was supposed to be Belo Horizonte it looks suspiciously like yours.

Exactly! It's not what SueME and I ended up with though.

Do the blooms last for several weeks on yours? Also is the bloom about 6" and mine is not fragrant is yours? Yours really does look like mine.

I never noticed any fragrance with mine. They began to bloom 6/21 and were still in good bloom 7/16. I didn't measure the blooms but they did seem above normal in size compared to the others in that area. Here you can see one, lower right, next to a red one to the left of it and you can see how much larger it is than the red one.
