New gesneriad lover-Hello!

(Zone 1)

Makshi, that's exactly what happened to me, I didn't isolate something new and ended up with mites that killed all of my AV's and a few other things as well. I think I learned my lesson! I hope so anyway!

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Lin,
Tis sad when that happens. I lost two that I had for many many years and I cried when I could save them. :(

(Zone 1)

LOL Makshi ... I have had so many house plants at times that I've forgotten I have a certain one until I find it hiding behind something else! Sometimes I find myself smiling when I find a plant I didn't remember having, but I don't usually get sad if something dies. I guess I don't have a real attachment to any particular plant. I love them all and if I cried when a plant died on me I would have spent many years crying (so that should tell you how many I have lost over the years) ^_^ usually from me being a bad plant mom and forgetting to water, and I am so bad about feeding, either they starve to death or die of thirst!

has anyone had experience using Avid or Forbid? Forbid is a systemic and is supposed to offer 30 days protection.
Havent found a place to buy it yet.

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

I've been using Forbid lately with no problems. I think the smallest size of it costs close to $300, whereas Avid is available in a smaller size. The particular mites they target are slightly different, so careful reading of the label is recommended (as always). Also, don't forget to rotate miticides.

By the way, hi and welcome! I'm an oldtimer on this forum but these days I mostly lurk. Work is too busy and I usually only have time to look on my BlackBerry (like now).

I know who has the AV's & streps, but does anybody grow Kohleria? There's one on ebay named Strawberry fields that is so pretty.

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Kivit - I've grown a few kohlerias in my time as have several others. Strawberry Fields is a nice one. Are they selling a rhizome or a plant? Have you ever grown them?

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

Kivit-- I have just been bitten by the Kohleria bug--check out Gary out of Africa--his prices are comparable to ebay, even bettter on some. I was bidding on a Silver Feather--it went for over $14 on ebay-- he has it for $6. He is only shipping to Nov 1 tho'.

Kivit, do you want me to look on the 25th at the St. Louis show for the Strawberry fields Kohleria? Last year that had some of everything!! Send me a PM if there are things you are interested in, last year most plants, in the paper cups were going anywhere from $1 - like $5 depending on what they were. I do not know what is worth more or less, I have the 2 AV's and the one plant I lost the tag to, gotta find out what it is again, and my teddy bear epi that is not doing so good since I repoted it, whoopsie!! Have you gotten the AV leaves yet? Have a good weekend!!!!

Wytheville, VA

Goldleaf! I didnt think to look if it were a plant or rhizome! I will check. No1 I have never grown them. Are they difficult? I consider episcias difficult.
