A Day Down the Jersey Shore

Cramlington, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

What a wonderful thread. I love the sanderlings, I saw some here recently and they are such fun to watch darting in and out of the incoming surf.
Beautiful photos!

Thanks for all the wonderful pictures, Pelle.

Cape May is a fantastic place to bird. First of all, the City of Cape May is gorgeous, crowded with Victorian B & Bs. And the entire surrounding area is so rich in varied habitat, even if conservationists face a never-ending battle against development.

This may sound silly, but the bird I most enjoy seeing and hearing in Cape May is the laughing gull. Not only are they a very attractive species of gull with their black heads and rich red bills (in breeding plumage), but their call is truly so laugh-like that I want to laugh myself when I hear it!

I agree; their call is wonderful!

I have another thread from down there here if it interest you.

I really enjoy seeing all your photos Pelle, especially of the Cormorant. Since we just have the Double-crested in our lake, it was interesting to read about the differences in the two species.

Very nice pics pelle...looks like a nice area too.

Great shore pics! I was down there the weekend before you and enjoyed time at all of those places. Didn't get any pictures though so it is great to see yours!

I think they had a Swallow-tailed Kite (and a Mississippi Kite)at the Hawk Watch around the time you were there - were you fortunate enough to see that bird?

Marlton, NJ

Hi ihug, Unfortunately I didn't see those. I hope to go down the last week in October; maybe I'll see some new ones then.
