I believe it's a Common Rose, Pachliopta aristolochiae:

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

wow never even heard of that one

The markings can't be seen because it is too dark but I think you are exactly right about it being a Pachliopta aristolochiae. Thank you for your help fly girl.

That species is only in India and Asia according to Wiki.

There are others, Common Rose Swallowtail, Pachliopta kotzebuea has the red around it's eyes, with a red tail tip but that may be buried by the wings. Some Papilio species on this site similar too, but none quite the same.

But is it in the US?

No Pachliopta species in North America,

Papilionidae in the US,

Is there a butterfly farm nearby from which it might have escaped?

Papilio rogeri is a possibility if I can find more pics,

Some of these pics do have red around the head, they are dead specimens so wouldn't show like a live one. Could the pink spots be in the folds? They are at least in the right area. Pics of live ones at the bottom of the page, the spots are in the folds so wouldn't show when folded, but looking again I think they would show! There does look to be some faint lighter marks on the bottom of the lower wings.

There's a lot of Papilio species with locations on this site,

I see on another pic posted that these are probably from a butterfly conservatory! In that case, it is probably Pachliopta kotzebuea.

Would be a good idea to state where these are, save a few people some time. :)

Sorry :( Yes, it was at a butterfly house that the picture was taken, however the card they gave us with the names never listed this one. The closest one was Urbanus proteus but the wing markings do not match up at all. That is why I've been having a hard time with the ID. Thanks for all your help.
