Townsville, Australia(Zone 10a)

Hi,

I received these seeds as Ipomoea 'Milky Way', they have either reverted to an all white form or they are something else, the flowers are all white.

You have no idea the confusion around the mgs here in Oz, here is an example, I brought some ipomoea scarlet o'hara seeds here in Oz, they have turned out to be Ipomoea Purpurea Crimson Rambler in the meantime I had traded for some Crimson Rambler seeds and guess what, havent a clue to what they are, probably a purple form of purpurea.

So here goes the pics of the white flowering mg, TIA all, slowly but surely working my way through the myriad of mgs:)))))

pearly gates?

Townsville, Australia(Zone 10a)

If it is 'Pearly Gates' than i will have to go and sow the 'Pearly gates' seeds as the seeds marked as milky way and the seeds marked as pg are totally different seeds , wonder what that will turn out to be, anyone got pics of seeds of Pearly Gates???

I think Pearly Gates has a yellow throat.

Annette very strange ! so early blooming a ipomoea tricolor - it's a record !!!
Pearly Gates it's a large flower , a sister of Heavently blue and Fluying Saucers 4 inches flowers , they are from ipomoea tricolor

Milky Way it's a small flower from the family ipomoea purpurea . I would say that kniola's black or Star of Yelta are larger than Milky Way .

There's a White ipomoea purpurea but I don't know the mame if they have a mame !

I think it's Pearly Gates .he's foiliage is clear green the foliage of purpurea family is dark green.
Thanks,
Dany

Dany it is Spring here I am in the land down under:), plus I live in the tropics so all year mgs flowers sowing and growing.

Keep throwing the ideas around, judging from the yellow throat guessing that it isnt Pearly Gates.Flowers are the size of a purpurea flower if that is any help:)

Cheers A.

living in a topical zone , a dream for me , perhaps in a second live .

When I say early it's early in the live of the plant .
On my place I never saw a ipomoea tricolor making bloom on 1 feet hight plant.
only purpurea came make that naturaly.
Here in Hungary it's the problem with tricolor : late blooming and rare mature seeds producer .
other MG grower would say the same I ' think !

oh ok. I get it, sorry still a bit of a mg novice.

I have a ton of extras that germinated that are smaller than this and starting to flower, nils etc, just thought it was the norm for mgs lol.

The white bloom here
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5627879
is an Ipomoea purpurea

The sepals here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/annette68_1223009167_619.jpg
are unmistakably Ipomoea purpurea

Look at the white Ipomoea tricolor here
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/89823/
for comparison...

This is a blue purpurea...nice,but not particularly typey for any specific cultivar...

See the General entry for all
Ipomoea purpurea
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/57560/

An all white purpurea entered here
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/8734/
all stems are hairy and the sepals visible to the right of the bloom are all purpurea
An almost all white with a thin ring of color around the throat
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/121793/

There are several instances of Ipomoea indica entered in here, but not enough detail to convince the PlantFiles administrators

http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/112586/

the long sepals visible on the flowerbud to the left would not be produced by an Ipomoea purpurea, but are very consistent for Ipomoea indica

Hope that helps...
