Found this last Monday in Hidden Valley in Bath County, VA; tomorrow it will most like be dead as we are expecting a frost tonight.
Any ideas about what kind of spider this is? Thanks!
CLOSED: What kind of spider could this be? a type of crab?
It's called a Marbled Orb Weaver, Araneus marmoreus. Great pics! I hope you'll add them to the BugFiles page for this spider.

Yes, I finally found it somewhere else and will add it to the BugFiles! Thanks!
Let us know if it's still around after the frost - I'd be surprised if it dies just because of a frost, but maybe. I remember watching the Barn Spiders (another Orb Weaver) on my windows in Maine all winter long and marveling that they could live through that cold. They didn't move much, but they did the next spring.
