good seed sources

Lilburn, GA

Hi,

I am looking for places that sell MG seeds. I am interested in the simple bright pink or deep blue colours.

Do you know of any good MG seed catalogues?

Thank you:o)

Hi Spider,

Welcome to the Morning Glory forum. I'm going to give an answer that applies to both you and everyone else here. Your question brings up a great entry for the MG sticky index that will go under SEED / Sources. Here's a draft of how it might be written:

"Check out forum members' home pages on DG, and then check out their trade lists.

Also, go to individual DG PlantFile pages for members of family Convolvulaceae, and click on any vendors selling or members trading that particular MG at the top of that webpage."

--------------------------------
a commercial source (y'all post any others you may know of, I'll be back with another):

-----------------------------------------

Edited to delete my remarks to the effect that DG members can list a personal or other website where they sell MGs on their DG home page (although we can not advertise in the forums). I thought I had read elsewhere that that was true, but am checking with admin to see if I am remembering correctly.

I am also thinking that, with respect to not advertising on the forums, that it would be a bad idea for forum members to post that they sell MGs in this thread - in any case.

Thanks to Ron for alerting me. I'll be back when admin responds to my question.

Y'all can still post commercial sites, like Onalee's, here, I think.

sorry, dany - you and I crossed in cyberspace

I just edited this post - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=5624994 to the effect that it may not be okay for DG members to post personal or other webpages on their home page in which they sell MGs. Am checking with admin to clarify this.

I don't sell. But I will do JMG & MG seed trades with others for MG seeds I don't have and other seeds (especially butterfly and hummingbird nectar and host plants).

When I have enough seeds of a particular MG cultivar, I don't mind sharing for postage as well. :-)

Just dmail me. :-)

thanks, Becky - your post is just what I was hoping folks would do here - y'all keep posting.

PlantScout--while not exhaustive by any stretch--has a lot of seeds and sources; it's at least a good place to start, since you can also get a feel for a company's reputation with customers via their GWD feedback:

Thanks, Terry. To this forum, following is Terry's clarification. It explains in further detail about not advertising on DG forums, although it is okay to post such information on our DG homepages:

"1) Is it okay for DG members to list personal or other websites where
they sell morning glories on their DG home page (as well as whether
they sell in the DG classified ads)?

Yes, on your home/memberpage you'll find a a box especially made for
linking to your own website (whether it's personal or business.)

2) In this thread - [HYPERLINK@davesgarden.com]
- would it be okay for DG members to mention that they list this
information on their home page (assuming listing that info on their
home page is okay in the first place)?

When you use the forums to mention your business (including a
roundabout "check my home page to see my business link"), that gets
back into self-promotion territory. Members are not allowed to use
the forums to namedrop their own DG Marketplace listings or classified
ads, announce sales, upcoming auctions on eBay, the Lily Auction,
etc.

You didn't ask, but I'll also mention we've had to make it clear to
members that the trade lists (with links into PlantFiles) cannot be
used as a de-facto sales tool (we have had a few reports of vendors
listing items "for trade" and when people contacted them, they were
given instructions on how to buy the seed or plant.)

Between Go Gardening and the Garden Watchdog's free listings, along
with the low-cost Marketplace, classified ads and PlantScout (which is
only $100 for a year, up to 100 items), we feel strongly there's no
reason for any vendor to resort to using the forums, tradelists or
dmail to promote themselves. Moreover, we encourage all forum
participants to leave their sales/promotional hats at the door, and
just enjoy the forums as an ordinary gardener, instead of looking for
ways to work their company name into the conversation. No one wants
to have to second-guess whether the advice they receive has a sales
"hook" attached to it."

thanks, everyone, for your input - it's all been very helpful.
