If I know you , you will catch right up to me!! LOL
Will Be Setting - up My EBs Soon AS Weather Allows?
Tplant - Have you been on the Earth Box Forum lately and seen the "Box Lady" in the Tampa area. She and her husband bought over 1000 EB's and have gone commercial. What a undertaking!!!!!
Makes sense as you can grow more in less space and get top quality with little work except watering. I was wondering when someone was going to pick up on it?
TPlant: Thanks for sharing the pics with us beginners here, it really helps to see what you use, and why not use the same brand you do, you have been successful and that is enough said for me. LOL

ohh a 1000 *drool* I could plant....well....everything!
101: The reason I don't plant lettuce is that it doesn't take direct sun very well. I did see where someone had a great idea with lettuce and cukes. Since cukes like to climb, you can plant the cukes and put a trellis for them to climb upwards and then plant the lettuce under the trellis, gives them some shade, and saves space also. My brother is laughing at me, cause I have an acre of land here, and had sod laid about 2 years ago, have had him dig a lot of it up and replaced the clay with good top soil all round the front for flowers and am now gardening. LOL Go figure right?

Just got back from a visit to my rheumatoligist and he gave me a booster shot to my left shoulder as that is the most painful, the shoulder that is, not the injection. Also told me to take it easy today which is not a problem as it is a drizzly, rainy day today and I will enjoy the break. The weather is perfect for my new transplants of yesterday and don't have to worry about overwatering as they are all in EBs. I still must plant my stringbeans as there is an empty EB on standby for corn or stringbeans? Don't know which at this time!
You are welcome 101, don't know how much space you have but that was an idea I read about and seemed to be a good one for solving two problems at once. TPlant, it got down to 40 degrees here last night and probably the same tonight, I drug in my two citronella plants, two geraniums and two shamrock plants, I don't think they'll make it through the winter here anyways if I don't. To boot, UPS brought me 47 more daffodil bulbs from Brecks, they will have to wait til the weather clears up a bit, don't mind getting wet; but ain't into drowning. LOL

Well, it's suppose to start raining here tmr with gail winds? You know how those weather liars are, though ... so we'll see about the winds. LOL It's misty out there already. Need the rain but sure hate to see the cold come.
As for room ... all my veggies are in EB's ... not much out there and what I have isn't worth planting in. :-( That's why I love my EB's!
!01 -- Ga. can use the extra water and it is heading your way. Windy and rainy again today but worse than yesterday so this is another extra coffee day (Hawaiin Kola by the way- I splurged) and relax indoors in my recliner. Been keeping a close eye on others that are growing veggies that are new to me like the asian products except for the Asian eggplants. I have noticed that with my arthritis getting more severe that it is far more comfortable for me to work with my EBs. I will probably will buy three more in a couple of weeks as just now I'm broke! Especialy interesred in corn as it is so delicious and easy to grow. I have planted six OSU tomato plants, the ones that are experimental and multi colored from Beth thru Oregon State University? If they do contain the extra lycopene and antioxidant it will be a big help to me with all my afflicitions.
Joy -- I noticed yesterday at Lowes a Black and gray bag of Jungle Growth Mix for veggies and checked the contents for both. The one I use, the Blue and black is less expensive by almost half price? Can not figure out why as they are both 2 cu ft bags and contain the exact same ingredients. The only thing I can imagine is that it is sifted a little finer than what I use but that is only a guess as I did not break the bag. Perhaps I will try them with my new EBs when they arrive, if I can scrape up the money? This is just for curiosity as I am well pleased with my "ole standby!" Hope everyone is in good health and having a pleasant day and if any of you have been following my" Pet" thread about "Scooters" tumor surgery she is just doing fine but still waiting for the lab report pertaining to cancer! Pray not!!
I just came in from planting in the rain. It has been so so dry here. Got a couple more Eb's up and running. Some radishes and beets and turnips. I pick the beets and turnips when really small, not bigger than a raddish.
I was wondering if you thought you could put kolrabi in one. Ive never grown it, period, so I have nothing to go on as to its growing habbits, and the space it takes.
More rain a comin. Sounds like I need to go back out and throw some 10-10-10- in all the beds. Acid for the azealas.
Why not grow kohlrobi as they are similiar to the shape and size of beets? I would try four on each side with fertilizer down the middle
I think Im going to do just that, thanks. Im hoping it likes direct sow.
Heck, I went to HD the last two weeks looking for veggie plants, I guess the demand has been so high, all they have is veggie 'teenie tiney just started' seedlings, might as well do my own if that all the head start I can get.
Do you think you have the time to start from seed so late in your season?
We will find out, all planted. I just went with 4 on one side and then lettuce on the other. The lettuce is already up and running. I didnt want to wast a whole box in case we didnt like it.
Thoughts & prayers to Scooter & you.
For arthritis,if you are interested I can tell you what I take that has helped me so much,no more pain,it has been a God-sent.
It's all nature, can get over the counter (Walmart,ect.).
I have Osteoarthritis a little more serious than arthritis but would like to know what you are referring to at Walmart.
As we were talking Scooters doctor called and her tumor was benign. That is GOOD NEWS!
Tplant - I just got notified that my large shipment of coconut coir grow bags and other coir products will arrive here early next week. I know you want to buy more EB's, but save some room for my bags to try. They are going to be free for you to use, because if they work real well you will be my best spokesperson. I'll call you when they get here and I'll bring them to you.

P.S. Picked 8 cucumbers today when I got home from work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Bob! Will be anxious to try one and appreciate your offer but I do not have any seedlings left for planting? Can I plant bush stringbeans, peas or squash directly into them??
Tplant - Yes to all !!!!
Bob
Obviously you did not get my message after I read "Joy" thread about them needing to be constantly watered? This I can not do but Flip would appreciate them as his soil is poor and it sounds like the answer to his problems. Because of my health and and shoulder pain it would be to much work for me. I only water my Ebs once every two days as I do not have an auto water system. As I stated "I must decline your generous offer as I could not give them a fair test but I know Flip would jump at it!" Please contact him?
TPlant: I'm so happy scooter's cancer is benign and my prayers are with you as you must really be stressed and hurting yourself. I've never heard of Kohlrobi. I got these seeds in the mail the other day as a free gift, they are "ornamental Kale-Chidon White Hybrid. Now, I heard they were no good for eating; but what are they for as they don't look very pretty?
joy112854
Bob -- I really feel so remourseful for turning down your offer and realizing how important your investment is that I discussed it with my family pertaining to your offer and do realize that you have a very important investment at stake that I feel with their help I can do it. I just did not want to have you recieve negative reports because of my incompetnce with my shoulders and not watering them enough. So if your offer still stands and you are willing to take a chance with me I am definetely willing! But please do understand that I will do my very best taking care of them. A big one and a bucket type or whatever you think would be great.
Ted
T- got your D-mail

T-plant Today when I inspected my garden I have found tiny little black bugs on all my different veggies. They weren't here yesterday. Being a southern gardener, do you know what they are. I don't have a magnifying glass to get a real closeup of what they look like (will buy one tomorrow). I sprayed everything with that Oil stuff I have. They have not done any physical damage yet that I can see, but you don't know what they can do as far as viruses and such. Any help will be appreciated as I didn't start gardening down here till last November and may have missed these little buggers.
BocaBob
It is not always the insect that does the damage but the larvae they lay! Spraying as quickly as you did was the right thing to do. Any chance of a close up picture? I've not recalled any black bugs in my adventures so you have me concerned?
Oh yeah they are the ones that may cause leaf miners. Anyway you did the right thing and acted quickly so I doubt that you will have a problem but give them another shot after the rain ends as this wet weather will bring out all kinds of things.
Well I got real nervous and got out the Sevin and just finished spraying everything growing. I would rather not use chemicals but my garden is too precious to me to get a bad bug problem.
I dont blame you one bit, I dont even think of sevin as a 'real' chemical. We all know, bugs can destroy overnight, what we have worked weeks and weeks for.
As always your babies look wonderful!
