Here it is October 1, 2008, and I STILL have Japanese Beetles. They have eaten my rugosas and other shrub roses, mallow, hiscus leaves, etc., etc. I tried spraying my plants/flowers with insecticidal soap. No luck. I've probably picked off thousands this year and have thrown them in buckets of soapy water which actually does the trick. But, why are they still coming? How do I finally get rid of them? What can I do to prevent them from coming next year? I live in a western suburb of Chicago. Any help would be much appreciated.
