I need ideals please

Waynesville, MO(Zone 5a)

Most of you know I am working on getting better from some mental troubles.I am going to the state rehab soon.If I have a plan or good ideal. They will help me get schooling and money to start in a new job or business.

My cousin keeps telling me to raise butterflies. In the summer you can not count how many are in me yard.I guess some people sell them?I just love to see them.I was reading about good bugs and bad bugs in a book. They sell those too.
What kind of degree if any do you need to grow and sell these? All I need is a greenhouse?I have to put all this together before I go.Help?

lilbud, I also love butterflies. I "grow" them. I find out what plants that certain butterflies like to lay their eegs on. For instance, parsley, the Monarch butterfly loves this plant. You plant the flowers they like, they will come! Go to your library and look in the gardening section. They should have books for you to check out on butterfly gardening. As far as selling butterflies, there is a lady I know that does sell them. She sells them to brides to release at their weddings and other special occasions. Hope this helps, Lisa.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, lilbudgc.:) Butterflies sound great! How about growing some produce and selling it? Would you like to do something like that? No formal degree is required. Just some good old fashioned hard work!!!

It might be easier if you specialized in butterfly gardenseed.

That is, grow the plants that attract butterflies, and sell the seed to others who'd like to do the same.

There has been much written on butterfly gardens the last couple of years, so it shouldn't be too hard to research. Plus Birds & Blooms magazine is a steady source of info.

Raising and selling beneficial insects requires a great deal of investment in specialized equipment, and there is an incredible morass of licensing, permitting, and varying regulations to contend with. It is not a backyard enterprise. So you might want to put this one on a back burner.

Another possibility is gourmet garlic, which is in great demand right now. If you've got the room it's relatively easy to grow, and commands a nice return (average $15/pound retail price).

When you say you need a plan, do you mean a full fledged business plan, or just an outline of what you have in mind?
