I just came across this link on West Nile Virus. The site is run by the USDA and has link to various state sites for West Nile Virus.
BTW A equine vaccine has been conditionally approved and info about that is on the web site.

USDA link about West Nile Virus
The West Nile virus is a disease of birds. The birds carry it along their flyways when they migrate. When a mosquito bites an infected bird and then us, we can catch this bird disease.
So we are advised not to feed birds in Michigan. The more birds you have hanging around your home, the greater chance of catching the disease.
From the site Sari mentioned, I found a link to the CDC's FAQ page about the virus.
It's very informative (from a person's perspective, as opposed to an animal's perspective). The link is http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/westnile/q&a.htm

Thanks Dave.
Daffydill I have been looking on a number of sites about West Nile Virus and can not find anywhere where they say not to feed the birds. Is that something you are just doing or did you read that somewhere? I am getting ready to start feeding the birds for the winter.
Very interesting and informative reading. Thankyou for posting the links.
