My husband inadvertently disturbed the web of this spider last night - and by this morning we were able to watch as it put the finishing touches on the new web. It worked very fast and the web is connected between my car's antennae and an outbuilding sitting about 7 feet away. The lowest part of the web is probably 4 feet off the ground and it's approximately 18 inches in diameter at it's widest point. Very pretty work, I must say.
The spider is small, maybe a half-inch at it's biggest point. The exterior appears hard and although it looks somewhat white in the photo it's mostly a pale yellow with black spots. It looks to have small "horns" or points, that surround it's entire body. In this photo it's legs are tucked up and are between it and the center of the web...I assume it's resting, it worked pretty hard to fix that web this morning!
We are located on the eastern coast of North Carolina (east of Greenville).
