Red Wattlebird. I suspect it is an immature male. It was quite a large bird, which indicates male, but its wattles are just tiny little buds, barely visible, which indicates immature.
A month flying between the river and the swamp.
MargaretK, thanks so much for posting the wildlife of Australia. I do find it so interesting. The last posting is how I look this morning. LOL Keep educating me to your wildlife. I do so appreciate it. Lee
Thanks awfully. Lee
Oh Wow! Spectacular pictures, Marg. You are so right, I would love to see the pink eared ducks. However, I would probably try to put them in a suitcase and bring them home ;o) One of these days you are going to hear a knock on the door...and it will be me! About 100 people (from Arkansas) left yesterday for Australia. I so wanted to make/take the trip but I cannot leave Eliza alone for that many days. LOL
Thanks so much for sharing. I really enjoy seeing your beautiful birds!
Kim
Margaret~such wonderful photos you're sharing. Lots of time devoted to them and I'm so glad to have access to your part of the world.
Margaret, you are a font of wisdom. I like smart people. Lee
Unfortunately, one of the chicks is no longer in the nest. I took a number of shots of the remaining chick being fed by the mother. This was after if had stopped eating.
Please let me know if this thread is getting too long and taking a long time to upload and I'll start a new one. There are lots more of the Osprey chick from yesterday on the "Raising Aussie Osprey" thread.
The Willie Wagtail was back, badgering the Osprey, who was trying his best to ignore it, but every now and again his tolerance was stretched and he'd open his beak and try to scare it off, always unsuccessfully. The Willie Wagtail wouldn't take the slightest bit of notice of the threatening gestures.
Hi Margaret, Gorgeous pics! It loads fine for me but it might be a good idea to start a new thread (river/swamp) for the dialup users. :-)
holy cow, 211 posts. yup. probably time.
Awww. The poor little one. I love seeing the little WW take on the big bird.
Loads fine for me but I am not dial up.
I was going to suggest starting a Vol.2.
Hello Nanny and all, has anything seen any really interesting birds this morning? When it warms up a little, I'm going to creep out and see what's around here. All take care, Lee
Good morning, duckmother! I'm from Arkansas, too, so whenever you get that Australia trip together let me know! :))
LOL You betcha crazybird ;o))
Where is Wilmar, AR? Must be south if you are zone 8a. LOL Feel free to join us over at the Mid-South Garden forum.
wonderful to catch up on the pink ear ducks, the oil on water colours of the herons,WW and the Osprey.
Thanks, boots, Lee, Kiska, Wallaby, dellrose, Knip, Linth, Burn, Gp, Iris and everyone for your wonderful feedback. I've really enjoyed sharing our birds with you. Ditto to those who view but don't post. Thank you.
Crazy and Kim, I suppose you'll expect me to pick you up from the airport, eh?
Yes Pelle, Nanny and Mrs Ed. I'll start a new thread altogether as I've been to another big wetland a few kilometres from here. It's called Herdsman's Lake and I had a ball out there the other day. Don't know what I'll call it yet, but I hope you'll all keep an eye out for it.
hope i'm encluded in the pickup,
Of course you are, boots. I have a ute and everyone can just pile in the back. LOL
I've started a new thread and have named it "More birds from Down Under". Please visit.
