topping trees

After the hurricane Gustauf and Ike that we just went thru my husband is wanting to top our trees, does anyone know any pros and cons about having trees topped? I'm afraid if he does it will make them prone to disease and they will soon die. Thanks

No pros, plenty of cons! You're right, topping them exposes them to decay which leads to further collapse later. Very bad idea.

Topping is a horrific thing to do to a tree. Below are two links that should give you all the information you need to understand the dire consequences of topping. Print them off and give them to your DH, and your friends, and your neighbors - anybody - ! The right information needs to get out better to homeowners and some of the so-called professionals who still do this.

Thanks, I think with this information we've about got him convinced that topping is a bad idea.....Not the way to go....
