CLOSED: Snakes head butterfly

San Andres, Peten, Guatemala

This is a small butterfly with a snake's head on its wings. They come a lot larger than this and when they come into the house one thinks they could be a bat.

Yes it certainly is a very different butterfly with a spectacular design. We don't have Owls here and when turned on it's back I thought it was a snake head with the mouth on the left. I have only seen these when they come into the house at night never in the garden. I am guessing they live in the woods.
