Sept pix vol 2 continuing into Oct

Calgary, AB(Zone 3b)

I always find peony seeds rather attractive - even moreso when there are some that were not fertilized, as those look like shiny red beads among the black!

Well heres a fall pic that is surely out of place.
I have one Hellebore maybe 3 years old now and look what it is doing. Supposed to flower in the spring. This year flowers late August, most of Sept and has 2 new buds on it!

Thanks for the reply on the mums Altagardner and fancy.
Alta I've never seen more than 2 seeds in my peonies pods, yours is loaded!!!
Nice surprise there fancy. Great looking plant too.

Here's some roses I brought inside to enjoy

Sorry guys, that photo was not suppose to go along with that post. That's a Spring flowering plant not a fall one.

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

Lovely bouquet, Joanna. I too, have been cutting bunches of Roses to enjoy inside. Want to enjoy them for as long as possible; the blooming days are numbered, I'm afraid. :(

That's a crazy, mixed-up hellebore there, fancyvan!
Nice saxifrage, burn - something to look forward to again in spring. Yes, the peonies do self-seed occasionally.

A last few flowers (presumably!) on Cyclamen purpurascens:

A late-blooming branch on Tanacetum niveum 'Jackpot' with red leaves of 'Royalty' crab. It's a beautiful windy day today... which probably means the last of our fall colour on the trees!

Cupid's dart, Catananche caerulea:

I used to grow Catanache caerulea (Cupid's Dart) and after seeing the last couple shots of yours, I am going to have to grow them again. Love them...

Here's a shot of my Orange Non-Stop Begonia, that just won't stop. Jack will stop it one of these days.

The greenhouse is in the process of being shut down... as DH has learned how quickly the weather can change at this time of year. (Better a little early perhaps, than hauling in tropical fish, water lilies and huge pots of tender roses in a snow storm, as has happened before, LOL!)
Some of the last blooms we will get on 'Colorado', a really excellent water lily:

There are quite a few California poppies, still blooming cheerfully (these self-seeded in a planter) - I think I'll need to beat back the perennials, and make a bed for them and other self-seeding annuals, as we used to have years ago.

Eryngium planum and a very loaded-down mountain ash - it seems the mountain ash in the area had a great blooming year.

Geranium cinereum 'Memories', still plugging along (as is the unstoppable Geranium x 'Patricia'):

Arabis procurrens variegata developed a pretty flush of pink this fall... oddly enough the other half of the plant (which I'd divided before planting) hasn't.

Last flower on Canna 'Tropicanna', as it is being dried out for winter storage...

I am so enjoying all the beautiful blossoms - I can't believe you can grow a Canna here in Calgary! Love the WL as well!

Well, the cannas are in a greenhouse (as are the waterlilies). You're absolutely right - they don't do much outside here!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Cannas do very nicely here outside in the summer; we just need to either put them inside for the winter or store the tubers. Unfortunately they are easily damaged by hail, but seem to be able to restore themselves nicely if the damage is done early enough in our growing season.

We lucked out with very few hail storms hitting our area this year. The one day it did, I happened to be home & moved the cannas under the trampoline.

joannab~amazing garden-good for you going tropical! Canna's are one of my favorites in my southern garden, but the leaf rollers are a daily chore!! Guess its always something no matter where you garden.

Beautiful shots of your Cannas and Begonias, Gardnerkett. I have grown Cannas here and they do very well, but must admit, I tired of the fall preparation of digging and storing. Seeing yours, tempts me to try them again, even if I treat them as annuals.

My HT Barbra Streisand yesterday. Love the Lavender color of this rose, but she is starting to show signs of Autumn wear and tear...

Had our first Frost last night. Most everything in my beds were touched. But this little Stella de Oro, seemed oblivious to the plight of the others. She just keeps right on bloomin'.
