Lilies not dying back.

Holland, OH(Zone 5b)

I'm a relative newbie with lilies. Last fall I planted about 75 bulbs, 5 different varieties - Asiatics and L.A. Hybrids. They were all gorgeous. When they were done flowering I didn't let them set any seed. This was weeks ago. Non of the lilies show any signs of dying back. The foliage is just as deep bright a green as it ever was. Is this normal? I thought their foliage would ripen before fall. It looks now like I'll be cutting them down after a frost.

That's normal. Some die back earlier than others but you can cut them as they go. I've had some stay green until November, got sick of waiting and cut them back then.

Thanks! I just didn't expect to see them still standing this late in the season. At least their healthy!

Always a bonus. :)

I let them stand & feed that bulb until the very end...

I have the same problem, but mine are in pots. I have to lift them this week because my new bulbs will arrive Tuesday and I have to sort out which ones I want to keep and which I want to send to my son in Minneapolis. Hope it isn't too late to plant them there! I have about 50 to lift.

Mine are still sturdy and green. It looks as though it will take a frost to stop them from growing.

I have planted lily bulbs after a bit of snow--as long as I can break thru the ground. The bulbs like to have the long winter to root out.

Finally, some, but not all, are turning red. Others will clearly have to be knocked down by a frost.

Well, as long as they are still green they are still building energy for the bulb. :)

Still building! However, tonight it will be 30 and tomorrrow 31, so...........................

snapple,

Just means you'll have stronger bulbs next year! I have had some stay green well into December here....I leave them until a freeze kills the stem.
