Ae Ae banana germination?

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

I've never seen a fruit from Ae Ae in real life so I may be way off. Has anyone gotten an Ae Ae to come true from a seed? It pups and some of the pups are true to the mother plant so I was wondering if any of the seeds would come true. Seems like somewhere in there the genetics in a seed would be right. Maybe One in 50, one in a thousand or maybe one in never because the seeds will never be true.

Anyone have a comment?

One in 2, right? Only from the old Mendel stuff : AA,Ae, Ae, ee.... and I have no idea whether it would fruit or not, but if the parentz did I would assume...?

It does fruit and the fruit is actually two colored. I did fine out that it will not come true from seed. It's a mutation in the corm that makes the green and white leaves. Ae Ae also can not be tissue cultured because the mutation is not uniform around the corm.

I have no choice but getting a pup if I want one of these. About $100 plus shipping for one.

Youch ... Better want it bad!

There be the problem. I don't want to spend that much on a banna. Main reason is I'm not in a high enough zone to play around with that for the money. I'll try anything if I get seeds, cuttings etc to see if it can make it through the winter where I live but I don't have a green house set up for tropicals and no plans for one. Ae AE is a pretty big banana and It won't do well in a pot especially spending the winter in my garage. LOL.

I will continue my search and I do know someone down in Savannah is growing them but he's a researcher and I'm pretty sure he won't be giving away Ae Ae any time soon if ever.

Good luck with it - you just never know....
