Mountain Laurel (native NC) question

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

Will a Mountain Laurel Branch tucked into the ground and weighted down, eventually take root like rosemary,& azalea & Rhododendron (the main things I have tried so far)??
There is a tree growing up the middle of a Mature M. Laurel that will eventually kill it ,I'm sure and I really would like to have some offspring if possible.
Any suggestions?

In a word, yes. Googling around brought up this book: Kalmia: Mountain Laurel and Related Species by Richard A. Jaynes. You might glean enough info from reading the excerpts to get you going - hopefully the link will work! You can type layering in the "search this book" box on the right.

Maybe you can kill the tree? Or is it something you'd like to keep too?

I have had one for years and it is now just starting to grow good. Does it look like a leafless stem when it is going to bloom?

Can't answer that as it is not near any doorways or walkways. I think you may be right, though. Seems like maybe it flowers and then after the flower so the leafing out continues.
I just hate that as pine tree has grown right up the center and eventually my Mt Laurel will probably die.
