CLOSED: Whats this insect?

Chennai, India

Hi,

I found this insect a month ago in my garden in South India. It seems neither a bee nor a common fly. Can anybody ID this insect please?

I found it during the rainy season and it was no more than 5mm in size. Sorry I couldn't get an image for scale. It was nimble and flew away very quickly.

It is possibly this:
Syrphid Fly - Genus Syritta

It does look like a fresh specimen of Syritta pipiens, male.

If the link goes to Home page, go to the Gallery then find Syrphidae on Page 4, then go to Page 14.

Hi,

The images you provided perfectly match the one I uploaded. Thanks for the ID. I will post this in my blog today or tomorrow. I got fed up posting butterfly posts. I like other bugs better than butterflies.
