I planted some lobelia (cardinalis and siphilitica) seed indoors last November that I had collected that fall (11/07). Nothing appeared all year. I left the planter that contained the seeds in the front yard and forgot about it. Yesterday I saw that both sections (card and siph) were covered with little seedlings - 4 to 6 real leaves. I happily planted them in the garden.
Is this expected behavior? Is there anything I can do to get plants next summer from seeds this fall?
I did not use grow lights, but have a very sunny southern exposure. Lots of other seeds did just fine.
TIA

When do lobelia cardinalis/siphilitica germinate?
I have lobelia syphilitica and it self-seeds all over the place every year, so I'd think the best thing to do would be to scatter the seed outside where you want it now. and a lot easier than potting it up. It likely needs or prefers a cold period before taking off. I can't tell you anything about the cardinalis.
