You know, I guess it would depend how many cats you have and how long they are munching.
DAILY BUTTERFLIES Page 48
The female Monarch is georgeous Meredith and so are the Am Ladies you posted. If I had one I sure wouldn't hesitate to show her.
Meredith, never apologize for too many butterfly photos! I love that last one of the Painted Lady - I would put that in the photo contest.
As for neighbors...last weekend the White Peacocks and Phaeon Crescents were flying around my neighbor's yard. Well, he has lots of frogfruit in his yard and they both use that for a host plant. I was literally on my hands and knees crawling on his lawn looking for eggs or caterpillars. Didn't find any - I think they were just feeding that day. I had seen him leave earlier in his truck so I felt pretty good about crawling in his lawn. I was more worried about his fire ant problem; when I treat my yard, I've been known to take a few passes through his, too. And this is the neighbor across the street from me so I can't even pretend like I wandered over the property line, LOL!

Someone tell me what BEST cats are. They look similar to monarchs cats but the chrysalis is not light green like the monarchs.
Caly,
BEST = Black Eastern Swallowtail. Congrats on the chrysalis, I'm waiting on mine.
Ahhhh, the baby buckeye is sooooo cute. Very pretty. : )

I think so too!!! I'll be releasing it tomorrow. I put some rotting fruit in there tonight, but it didn't seem to with it tonight at 6pm.
Congratulations!!!!!
I sure wish this darn BST would, but I think I am going to have company this winter!!
Me too! I have three now. The last silly that I put in there made the sling on a piece of dill! sheesh. I'm going to need to have the experts walk me through removing the silk. Maybe I can just tape the dill stem to another twig.
Pretty pics everyone! I love the Buckeyes, but haven't had the pleasure of raising one yet.
Mrs. Ed....exactly what you need to do; clip the dill twig leaving just enough to hot glue to a stick or either pin it to a piece of foam.
I thought I just loaded a picture of a Monarch on here but didn't happen, must have posted elsewhere. So let me fetch another. This one was a Monarch that just emerged yesterday from my first ten I have pinned. I put it on a Mist flower and this male Queen thought the lady he has been waiting for had arrived! The Monarch had to flash his spots to get him to back off! lol!
Wow - that Long-Tailed Skipper is bee-yoo-ti-ful! Put that in the Bug Files!
Melanie
Double wow! I missed that one. It is georgeous for sure Elphaba!
Now I've got a few very tiny yellow cats from the eggs the ZLW laid...before its untimely demise. They're on P. caerulea foliage.
Yea, on the ZLW!!
Elphaba, that is pretty!!
Everyone has some beauties. I really would love to see a buckeye here. I was wondering what you found their eggs on? I think I've tried growing some stuff for them, but I'll have to look in my journal to be sure.
I saw a mourning cloak but it wouldn't cooperate for a picture. Here it is up on my flag about 10 or more feet over my head! I think it may have grown up on my weeping pussywillow but I'm not sure, because everytime I look through it I don't find anything. But the thing is so dense that it is really hard to look through it well.
Ooops.. I forgot the L in flag!

Here is a cat that I haven't ID yet I think it is a hummingbird moth cat because it is on my honeysuckle. Or maybe I should say I hope that's what it is. : ) I need to go check my guide though.
Added - It's a snowberry clearwing moth which look a lot like the hummingbird clearwings.

Merideth,
this cat (not eggs) was found on some narrow-leaved plantain. I'm going to grow some next year, i have a few plants in the yard.
This was really quite a rescue because the cat was found on plants along my Mom's creek. In the meantime, there was a huge flood (crested over 16 ft, usually is 2). So it certainly would have been a goner.
Oh taht's so cool! I'm glad you rescued it! I think I remember that now, I made a new bed and there were a ton of plantain growing in the area so I dug some up and replanted them when the bed was done. Only problem is they aren't the narrow leaved ones : ( I did end up finding a seedling that I left and it's appearing to be the narrow leaved type. : ) Hopefully it is! Do you think I should just weed the ones that aren't narrow leaved?
Great photography Nanny, everything is picture perfect. I love especially the red Admiral!
Hi guys! I didn't want to hog the thread with all my amazing pictures from today so you can check me out here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/907397/
Here's a Monarch I let go yesterday.
Melanie
Nanny, you are so funny. Maybe you should go post these on the Daylily forum. :p
