Just wanted to give a shout out to all of the DGers trying to recover from Ike. I recently ordered from Flowerjunkie in Cypress, Texas. I didn't notice her location at the time, but when I didn't hear back from her I thought "uh-oh..." I checked, and sure enough, she's VERY close to the gulf coast. Due to power outages and other problems, she wasn't able to get in touch with me until yesterday ( Friday, 9/19 ). She seems to be okay, and said the plants I ordered made it through okay, so I'm hopimg she didn't lose anything that can't be replaced. I saw a piece on CNN yesterday about one neighborhood that had been scoured clean. There wasn't even any debris left, just foundation slabs- except for one lone super-built house, and that looked gutted and lonely in a barren landscape. In some areas, people are being told they won't be alowed to rebuild. So many people have lost everything, and a garden may be a trivial thing by comparison. But a garden is often a place of retreat and refuge from life's vagaries; a much-needed Zen moment- and so many have lost even that last little bit.So, to all in our DG 'family' that that have been affected in any way by Ike, I just wanted to say that our thoughts, hearts and prayers are with you.
Hurricane Ike
