First time poster from Youngstown, Ohio.. I dont if this is the place to ask this qusetion but here goes. Me and my wife have lived in our house for 9 years and over the last 3 or 4 we would find a german cockroach in our house this past month 5. I immediately called out the best pest control company in our area to come and investigiate this. Everytime he comes out to our house he say's in all his years doing this he has never seen a situation like ours. I am a neat freak and keep our house spotless. He treats with a brown powder and sets sticky traps that attract them everywhere but we never have any in the traps and never find dead ones. My question is can these pests travel outside from house to house if someone in our neighborhood is infested with them. The pest guy say's it very unlikely. We are ready to leave our house. Also if it matters all the houses are basementless in our area. Thanks in advance

He is wrong to say that they do not travel. I watched as my neighbor sprayed her house and they came out from it and ran across the grass to my shed. It was as if that shed had a magnetic attraction to them. I never want to see anything like that again in my life! The roaches RAN over the tops of the leaves of grass as fast as they could. I now keep a three foot barrier of poison at the property line and around my buildings. I refresh it every few months.
In the summer if you look at the bugs that are flying around your porch light, you will find them there too. They are drawn to the light as part of the mating thing.
Good Luck
Sound horrible, I'm not familiar with them but found some information which may be of help. If you click on the 'treatment' link at the bottom it takes you to more info on that.

Bear in mind these can easily become tolerant to insecticides, baiting seems to be the recommended action.
Being an Army wife, I'm now in my 25th house and have learned a bit from each of them. The bait traps that are found in the grocery store are put under all of the appliances and sink cupboards before I even move in the house myself. I also put the mouse bait in those places. If it comes into my home it will die before I even know it is here. Vacuume cleaners and weatherstripping are the only defense against spiders. The poisons used on them are too nasty to use in the house.
There is my two cents. Good luck.
