Lodi, United States

It is beautiful!

londonderry, Australia

you are right OLD SCHOOL

Clarkson, KY

No, TF. When have you ever bought Crown Royal undressed?? It's illegal everywhere but Nevada. Now if you go to a bar and buy it in a sexy sheath dress on the rocks, THEN it's a runway model!!

Good reminder, P. Jordan. We should be hearing from Commander Williams shortly.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

Clarkson, KY

Actually I never made it past private myself. But I've got a hatch coming up next week.

Didn't you have a fluffy or two hanging around already?

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

(Zone 7b)

Wow that incubator was cool lookin WE could really hatch some eggs in that!

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

lol yea. i have 2 restaurant style double door fridge and freezer, I would love to turn one into a bator/brooder. I know of a guy that turned one into a smoker.

Over-------

Commander Williams, Ma'am. This is Midwest Ground Control, Private Moxon reporting. We are experiencing some morale difficulties in the ground control office Ma'am. Seems that the ground control crew disbelieve your wonderful hatching rate, and would like to see cute pictures to improve morale and boost enthusiasm.

Midwest GC sends condolences on lost chick, and is very sympathetic.

Moxon over.

Commander Williams reporting that i am pedaling my bike as fast as I can to push up the electrical charge here a Panther Creek Outpost. Since we are located at an outpost we are limited on DSL resources and have to resort to dial-up. Will continue pedaling bike (breathing very hard) to gain power source and try to up-load pics of the new life forms.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Private Moxon very appreciative. Wishing I could do some pedaling for Commander Williams. I need the exercise. Private Moxon uses satellite internet via Wildblue. Sometimes spotty during adverse climatic conditions, but otherwise better than dial up. Recommend saving JPEG photos on lower quality settings with lower DPI number which makes for smaller upload file but still displays well on screen.

Commander Williams (now requiring Oxygen) will try to produce an image of the new life forms.......

How do they get clean so quickly? Mine always have that funny feather tube debris for at least a day or two...

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

new life form is beautiul, commander

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Oh Commander, eruptions of cheering from here at Midwest Ground Control upon viewing of your adorable picture. Sending oxygen cylinder pronto. What a beautiful bunch - they are simply adorable.

Congratulations, Commander.

Private Moxon, over and out.

Clarksburg, MO

Thank you on the comments. Commander is in low spirits as the polish have yet to even pip and I feel that part of the mission may be a failure.

Over..........

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Private Moxon sends her condolences, but don't give up yet. They might just be fashionably late.

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

We're crossing our fingers and toes for some polish peeps and pips real soon. Maybe they just have to work on getting their hair just right before the coming out party?

{{{WARNING PERSON THINKING OUT LOUD}}}}

I think Sometime in the near future i'm going to build an incubator it's going to be of plywood and i will use the foam board insulation for insulating. Will build it to fit a standard egg turner and it will sit on and elavated frame covered in hardware cloth i will get a pan the size of the turner for water and will cut a small door at the bottom the lenghth of incu this will be under the framed wire holding the turner i will be able to add water without opening the top. Will have plexiglass window in top and top will fit snug to base unit. heat will be supplied by light bulbs or heating coil controled by dimmer switch i have a forced air fan left over from and old incu. Basically will be built around size of turner as i don't want to turn eggs. I think it will work whats everybody else think

Lodi, United States

I had good luck with the light dimmer in mine.

(Zone 7b)

Does it hold a steady temp?

Lodi, United States

Yes--if the room temp is steady. I used a 25 watt bulb--mcamden used a 40, but she also had a thermostat. I bought one, but never put it in. I marked on the dimmer switch the correct setting. I also used a small fan to circulate the air.

(Zone 7b)

What was % of hatch?

Lodi, United States

Of those that began to develop--about 60% first hatch, 50% second. Some groups hatched at almost 80%. It did seem to related to the shipment and probably handling by USPS. The hatches were somewhat staggered depending on when I finally received the eggs. Also there are reports that the success of the hatches tends to diminish with repeated use of home-made styrofoam incubators. I am not sure if this is true--although my second hatch was not as good--the Nankins had a very high hatch rate.

Commander Williams doing the happy polish chicken dance as one has pipped and trying to zip. Currently have 18 life forms and the polish pip along with 21 still in encapsulation modules with no activity.

Commander over....

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Private Moxon doing the happy Polish chicken dance also, to encourage further Polish pipping. Do any of the other ground control units have an accordion? Seems like the appropriate instrument for the happy Polish chicken dance.

Congratulations Commander!

Clarksburg, MO

Commander Williams reporting the evening events at Panther Creek Outpost. I have 2 polish chicks. One was out of an encapsulation module labeled BP, which I had logged as Black Polish, but the new life form is a Buff/Yellow color. Commander requests the knowledge of crew members as to whether there is a buff polish color? The second chick is a White Crested Black Polish. Commander is expecting to get at least a trio of WCBP from Tia at the Chickenfest. Have one more polish pip which is labeled BLP. So anyone's guess on that color.

Over and out......

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

There is such a thing as a buff polish, if that was a question you asked. I know because I was tempted to buy one from a another Dave Gardener. I get a kick out of them because they look like they have the same hair do at my daughter --- big blonde poof!

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Commander Williams - this is Private Moxon reporting. Suggest BLP is probably buff laced polish or black laced polish or something else laced. Blue?

Suggest that Commander Williams see my thread here for pix of my buff laced Polish who is currently growing back her head feathers. Link below.

Salute! And Congratulations on the hatches Ma'am!

Clarksburg, MO

Lazy Ladies they do seem to resemble hair do's. she is a cutie.

Moxon- What a beautiful bird! If I happen to be cursed with a roo. Maybe we could get them together. Maybe I will find some at Chicken fest. Would like to have some breeding trios or MORE!
