What a bonus. Thanks, Linda!!
Green Elephant Plant Swap November 2008
I don't care if it rains! Isn't it supposed to on swap days? LOL See everyone there!!!
Ha! First plant swap without rain, although it sprinkled briefly.
The parking lot was full - many new folks & lots of plants to trade.
Sounds like another Winter sowing event is in the works, but no date set yet.
I'm ready for Spring.
So good to see everyone again! Those who could not attend were missed.
But there's always next time...!
Enjoy what's left of the Autumn Colours...
I came to the swap for the first time. I'm already planning for March and will have photos to go with the plants I have (or at least that's my plan right now).
Marcia
Hi Marcia -
Welcome. Glad you had a good time today.
Be careful with the lychnis (rose campion). It is a heavy reseeder and in one season will find its way into your beds, your gravel driveway. I keep pulling and can't get ahead of it.
Hey, Gordon, can you post a picture of that shrub with berries we saw up at the end of the garden?
Gordon hits the motherlode...again!
Small shrub with berries is Sarcacocca.
Love these - Evergreen, low maintenance, winter flowers smell like Vanilla; berries in Fall.
Kate - 5742057 is sarcococca, right? But what about 5742330?
Both.
Mine tend to have the darker berries, but I do have a few that have berries that are more reddishy.
is that a word? =:0)

Oh, really. I love the bigger, broader leaves on the second - and the reddishy berries, too.
Good to see you today.
OOH, looks like a great time was had by all! Sorry I missed it, but glad I did not come home with plant loot! I've been re-glazing the greenhouse and it's a huge job. The end is in sight but, Oh, my aching body! There was no way I could cut loose and prepare plants to bring.
Cool photos, Gordon - you got the feel of the swap in pictures!
Besides working my *&$@ off in the greenhouse, I took time out to show this friend around the garden:

Melissa, we missed you, but I'm happy you were otherwise engage in such a productive endeavor and that you can see light at the end of the tunnel.
So sorry that I didn't make it. Looks like everyone had a great time. For some reason I had it in my head that it was on the 8th. It's been a rough week. Our calico Chimay has Hepatic Lipidosis (fatty liver.) We are having to force feed her with a syringe and push meds. Waiting to hear back on the blood tests. Keep your fingers crossed, she has lost 3.5 pounds over the last few weeks. She is only 10 so I am hoping that we can turn this around. On top of that one of my chicks died. I just hope that this is the end of the sick and dying critters for awhile. Hugs to all. Rachel

Oh Rach, I'm so sad to hear this.
I hope it works
Hugs
Rachel! I'm so sorry. It seems like it's been a tough year on the animals. And you guys have had way too much. I'll keep my fingers crossed that Chemay's test results come out with a definitive and treatable answer.
XOX
And I'm saving acanthus for you.
Mary and Kathy thanks for your kind, positive thoughts. They really do make a difference.
Rachel, I feel so badly about your kitty's health issue - you guys have really had some tough times, darn it! Kitty prayers being said.
Thanks for the prayers Carole :0)
Looks like it was a great day to chat and catch up. Sorry I missed it. Spent the day moving a 'not so wonderful' reclaimed barn for future potting shed. Should have come with plants and seeds to see everyone instead.
Rachel, I'm sorry to hear your kitty is not well. It sounds like you've had much more than your share. We'll keep our fingers crossed that all works out well.
Hey everyone...it was good to see you guys again. Kathy, Katye, Gordon, et al. Everything I got is planted so the pot ghetto remains seriously depleted! I went to Heidi's afterward and spent too much money, as usual. But hey. . .what's a girl to do?
Rachel, you were definitely missed. I am so sorry to hear about all your furbaby troubles this year ~ it really breaks my heart. Hope you are doing okay and I hope Chemay will be well and strong again soon.
Melissa ~ Sorry to miss you. I wish I had a greenhouse to reglaze!
Tills ~ I had your book with me on the off chance you would be there. So now it's safely ensconced on my bookshelf again awaiting our next meeting.
Hope to see everyone again soon, AFTER the rain stops!
Hey Rach and Sheri
come join us

Thanks Sheri, for remembering my book, so glad its safe, May be we will be able to hook up sometime this fall, just have not heard much from you to know what you are doing and where you are. Hows Chile doing?
Hi Rachel. So sorry to hear about your kids.. I had 3 pass away within a few months and 2 puppies in the middle. There was joy and happiness at the same time. Our animals are so loved and bring us so much love when they are here. How is my scrappy man. We almost got another but this one was way more hyper than the turtle man with a nippy problem. So we had to say no and it was sent to dog rehab to hopefully be adopted someday. Hang in there. Heidi
