I have no idea. Can anyone help?
CLOSED: YUCK!
This is a larva of a beetle in the family Scarabaeidae. If you found it in turf/sod at grass roots level, it could be one of the 'white grubs' in the genus Polyphaga (May beetles/June bugs) that can be quite destructive to lawns - see http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/garden/archives/DSC02430.JPG. If it was in loose soil (such as in your garden), it could be a green June beetle/fig eater (Cotinus spp.) - see http://www.virginiafruit.ento.vt.edu/GJBlarva.jpg - based on its overall appearance, I would lean towards the latter.
It was in the lawn. It really moved quite fast for such a fat little guy. However it really looks like the June beetle grub. Thank you for your help.
