I notice bag worms are showing up on my trees. What is the best way to get rid of them?
bag worm control
If the worms are the kind that make a semi-transparent bag, I cut off that part of the branch their nest is on and burn it. You will have to look closely to see if they are still in there though. My DH has a long pole where he attaches a small fuel soaked rag on the end for higher up bags or tents, (whatever they are) if we can't reach the branch. He just touches their bag with the flame and they fry and fall out. It's really gross when they start falling out. It's the only way we can get to them. I wouldn't do it that way if your tree has a bunch of dead leaves on it. Bug spray works good too if you can reach the branches.
It seems kind of late in the year for those critters to appear. It's usually in May and June I find them. We've had an unusual summer though.
