Hummingbird Migration Zone 9A

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

Ive been seeing one or two stragglers coming down with the fronts but its been days since Ive seen any little guys and I sure miss them! My temps have been running in the low 70's and nights in the high 40's.

Does anyone get them all year down there? Any that don't go to central america, that is?

Melbourne, FL

Mine usually stay the winter. The temps now are 75-80 in the day and around 50-60 at night.

Amelia Island, FL(Zone 9a)

When do they begin the migration North in the Spring. What do the temps need to be?

Melbourne, FL

I usually see them here thru March.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

I'm going to miss my hummies! Haven't seen any in a little while now. The least they could do is tell me they're leaving, but I guess they don't know how.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I bet they waved their little wings the last time they saw you. You just didn't wave back! lol!

Carrollton, TX(Zone 8a)

Sheila - Do the y come to our area in the fall? - I missed them this spring - I need to know when to put them up both times - they like my honeysuckle - but it's white - I'm planting Flame acanthus - that should do a better job attracting them - I had a few last year - I would like to have more and love for them to stay around longer - LMK if there's anything else I can do to attract them

Esther

PS: Were you at the Arlington RU - Oct 18th? There were so many - I can't remember - but I think you were???

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Yep, I was at the RU. There were so many new people there this year that I felt like I was a newbie! We also forgot to take a group shot like we have done in the past. My DH took a lot of pictures though.
As for the hummers, I don't know other than I have a beebalm that they simply loved last year. Maybe I can bring you one at the spring RU.

Carrollton, TX(Zone 8a)

I got one at the ru from Becky - how big does it get? We are the same zone - when do you have them at your place?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I put up feeders in the spring but never see hummers then. This was taken in June last year. The Monarda gets around 24-30" for me. There is a hummer in the center.

Color me green with envy that you still have them :)

Melbourne, FL

This Hummer showed up yesterday, but they were only a few flowers on the Firespike, and the Firebush has been killed back a few feet from the freeze.

Lucky you...hope the little thing can keep warm!

GP, do you have feeders up?

Melbourne, FL

No, I had a feeder up a couple of years ago, but got tired of changing the sugar water when nothing ever used it. If I still had it, I would have put it out for this little one, though.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Do they usually stay year round for you, or is this one on its way back?

Melbourne, FL

I usually have some in the late fall, winter and spring. They move further North in the summer, or maybe I'm just not outside long enough in the summer to see any.

Melbourne, FL

I put up a Hummingbird feeder, since the recent freezes have killed back most of the hummers favorite food sources. Not sure if the hummingbird has been using this, but the bees love it. I'm sure they are having difficulty finding food also.

Awww, that's a happy picture.
