CLOSED: Big black and yellow spider

Has anyone seen this before? This picture is a little fuzzy, the next one isn't as fuzzy but the flash was on and washed him out some. If you need a better picture, I can try tomorrow evening if he's still there.

Argiope - wonderful spiders!

Sinks Grove, WV

Specifically, this is Argiope aurantia, a species that goes by several common names, including Black and Yellow Garden Spider, Black and Yellow Argiope, Yellow Garden Spider, Yellow Garden Orbweaver, Black and Yellow Argiope Spider, Yellow Argiope, Golden Garden Spider, Golden Orb Weaver, and Writing Spider. We currently have one of these in our garden, its web connecting leeks with asparagus.

Oh thank you! That's an awesome article. That's funny about Cindys. Whenever I find a stick bug I call it Charlie, I don't know how to tell a male from female, so they're all Charlies. When I was a child I knew a lady named Charlie so it seems to fit. I'm so glad she won't hurt me, and I'm sure she will be very happy there as I have tons of grasshoppers in that flower bed.
