I'm going to the post office now!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I didn't think we were late yet, because I thought we had a mailing date of Nov. 30... since that's Sunday, I was planning to send out my seeds Monday. That will give me one more chance to look around for any additional goodies tomorrow (after company is gone) and make sure everything is properly packed up. If that doesn't work, just LMK.

Downers Grove, IL(Zone 5a)

Nobody's late! :) Just wanted to make certain everyone remembered since I haven't posted in awhile. I'm not much of a chatter so I tend to just post the facts and let everyone go from there.

We're supposed to get our first significant snowfall tomorrow. Sounds like a good day for a cup of tea and seed packaging!

Franklin, NJ

We got our first sig snowfall in Oct. A kinda freak thing. In my town we got almost nothing,15 miles away, where I work, we got about 3 inches but was mostly gone by the end of the day.But the really freaky thing was that in about a thirty mile radious there were spots that got up to 14 inches that stuck around for a week or so.
Oct is WAYYYY to early for snow.

Downers Grove, IL(Zone 5a)

Ooooh, more seeds today! I got your seeds Claypa!

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

Well, good - the darn post office was closed when I got there (they were supposed to be open), so I just put a bunch of stamps on it.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

OK, what happened to the post I tried to make last Wednesday? Cyber gremlins! LOL

I ended up being late because I kept thinking I'd be able to find those white swamp milkweed seeds... got to the bottom of my seed drawer and they still weren't there! Grrr So my packet with just 4 varieties ended up being slim as well as late. I hope the postal service got them there quickly!

My Penstemon smallii is from seeds shared by Gerris2, and he mentioned recently that it was a short lived perennial in his garden (he didn't say how short -- I've had mine 3 years now I think), so that's one to allow to self-sow a bit (the seeds don't seem to spread far).

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

I find a lot of the penstemons to be short lived...2-3 yrs but they self sew. P.tenuis pops up all over my yard in the most unlikely places.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

It's been a week since I sent mine off, though... so they should have arrived by now (I hope!).

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Red, that's good to know... I'll have to winter sow some replacements this year, just in case. (The bed these particular plants are in is in the front yard... it gets mulched and occasionally Preen'd, so volunteers are less likely.)

Beatrice, NE(Zone 5b)

If you don't let them go to seed, they'll live longer.

Downers Grove, IL(Zone 5a)

OK Everyone! We're Done!
I'm off to the Post Office, so you can all start watching your mailboxes!

We had a couple of empty spots in the the swap so I returned the seed packets I didn't use.

Thank you all for doing this with me! It was a fun experience!

Downers Grove, IL(Zone 5a)

I sent the packages out via priority mail and updated the above post with your delivery confirmation numbers. You are all such a generous bunch! This has been great, and I hope to do it again next fall.

Thank you again everyone!

Well, I picked a crummy time to wander into this thread, didn't I?
How often do these native swaps happen?
Is it always in Fall?
Would Winter be ok?
Maybe after the whole holiday hoopla?
I might have time to host, even.
What do you think?

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Got my box yesterday and Wow! What a fabulous assortment! chat, thanks sooo very much for doing this, I'm thrilled with all the goodies :-)

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

I agree gemini, lots of great plants, some real surprises too. I'm really looking forward to growing them. Thanks a lot everyone, especially chatnoir!

nilly, this swap was pushed back from when it was started, I think because people needed more time to collect seeds - so fall or afterwards is probably the most likely time. I don't see why you can't try another swap now or in winter. Some of us will be starting seeds soon, I'm sure.

I have a couple extra packs I could send or swap

Pittsburgh, PA(Zone 5b)

Very cool.
I will consider something for Jan or Feb!

San Antonio, TX

Holy moly! I got my box yesterday and was absolutely amazed at the quantity of seeds!!! This is the first swap I've participated in... is this huge amount of seeds normal? It is thrilling!!!! Best Monday I can recall! Thank you so much chatnoir!

I am new to Dave's Garden and native plants. I went through the Master Gardener's program in Northeast Texas and we had a program on native plants and it excited everyone so much that we have formed a NPSOT chapter this summer for our area. We are all in a learning what is and what isn't native. I haven't been so excited over anything in years. I do have some natives left over from my grandmother (I inherited her house) and considered them weeds but now have a new appreciation for these flowers. I do want to expand what I have and have purchased and sown some new seeds. I would like to collect and take part next year in your seed swaps. Kay

Pittsburgh, PA(Zone 5b)

FrostKay - cool.
I'm a new subscriber, too.
And I'm relatively new to my current area so I'm new to the native plants here.
I am looking forward to the next swap as well - might even try to host one if I get to a state-of-mind where I think I can come through!
Meanwhile, I garden vicariously through Dave's until Spring finds its way to zone 5 again!

Franklin, NJ
