before she realized it was in the stall with her. The photo was taken in an outdoor shower on the Outer Banks in North Carolina, USA. I took another photo with a coin for scale and determined the body is about 3cm in length. I'm reasonably certain I saw a similar lone spider a couple of years ago, near where I live in Pennsylvania. I recall it had a spun a web and I enjoyed watching it for an entire summer. However, I never saw another after the winter. What is it? Native or import?

This gal appears to be in the family Pisauridae (fishing/dock/nursery web spiders), such as those in the genus Pisaurina - see http://sparkleberrysprings.com/v-web/b2/images/arachnids/spiderpitcher070621bsm.jpg for an example. These spiders do not spin a capture web, but do construct one to protect their young when they hatch - see http://sparkleberrysprings.com/v-web/b2/images/arachnids/pisspiderlings070624asm.jpg
Also, there are some grass spiders (family Agelenidae) that do spin capture (sheet) webs, and that can superficially resemble Pisaurina spp., but they usually can be distinguished by having longer, more prominent spinnerets at the end of their abdomen - see http://www.wildutah.us/spdr_010906drpr14.jpg
