bubblers/shelf units: are they cheap to run???

Lilburn, GA

Hi,

I just got a $10 aquarium pump with a tube and air stone as I have two big brug branches that i am trying to root. i just put them into a big bucket with about 8" of water.

Are these cheap to run? What about shelf units? At the moment I have 3 shelves with in total 14 lamps. I am worried about the price of electricity, trying to run all these at the same time.

Thank you

Spider.. Don't know how much it costs to run your euipment, but I used the method for rootign the brugs from other folks on the forums.

I just got me a tall drinking glass. Filled it with water to cover at least about 4 to 5 inches of the bottom of the stick and put it on the kitchen counter where the sun comes in.

A few days later they started developing allthese white little bumps and was told that where the roots all gonan come out. Think a few days later changed the water and about week after that had little roots starting to come out and thats when I planted mine into soil.

Foudn that to be the easiest and cheapest way and now have my sticks growing beautifully.

The electricity to run the pump will cost about one tenth as much as the seven florescent tubes cost.

Hi,

thank you very much for all the info.

Starlight, I am using it just to root two 5 foot branches that I cut off. I have some small cuttings in water with a bit of peroxide.

I am trying to root the big ones quickly so i can pot them up before the weather gets cold. they are big and woody. Any tips?

thank you:)

Sorry, can't give ya much advice or help on them. I just got stung by the brug big and have my first sticks and some seed I hope that I can germinate.

There is a regular brug forum and those folks are real helpful and have lots of experince. One warnign though, looking at their pics can get you addicted even more. Thats how I got started on them LOL ; ) They might have a bunch of good info for ya if ya havent asked there already.

The only thing I know is that a friend had some big cuttings and they took and put them ina five gallon bucket of water and put it their hallway in semi dark to root theirs. They never changed the water and it would get to smelling pretty bad, but they did get roots on them fat big ones and then they planted them outside in the spring.

Starlight, i can feel you pain about brugs. I inherited one with the house and now have 9 plants and 12 unrooted cuttings as well as the two big ones I am trying to root.

I read that the right way to root them inwater is you have to change and put fresh water daily and add some peroxide to it doesn't rot.

I have a big Charles Grimaldi. If you don't have it and you are interested I can send you some cuttings as I have to cut it down and don't want to waste any of it. It has golden, very fragrant flowers.
