The Mountains must be close to peak, I may have to take a trip this weekend to see.

Wow, beautiful Celeste!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very nice, Celeste. You're really into there now.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thanks! It was almost 70 today ...makes it hard to believe summer's over. The colors in the tree's tell me otherwise and so does the night time temps.
Even the Sunrise's are more colorful!
This picture has not been touched in anyway except to shrink for posting here. The color was amazing and made me very happy that im a early riser!

Beautiful sunset!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

it's a sunrise actually, kinda unique huh?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very nice.

Have you had a frost yet, Celeste?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

A slight frost, not a killing frost yet. I still have tomatoes out in the garden, along with squash, brussel sprouts, and swiss chard. Of course I've had to cover them for 4 out of 7 nights to keep them.

I know it hasn't been a killing frost because my dwarf Delphinium is still in bloom too.

Thats a lot of work , covering every night.
I wonder if the Brussel Sp's need it.
Arent they like cabbages? Those tough outer leaves protecting the inner core?
I don't really know, except I remember my grandparents vedg. garden. The cabbages and BS's could stand a frost, cauliflour too. Maybe not constant freezing.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes, the brussell sprouts actually taste sweeter if they have been hit by a frost. I don't cover them, but the rest I do.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I thought it went something like that.
I remember seeing cabbages and brussel sp's in the fields long after the corn was harvested and the other garden plants were totally dead.
Is Kale the same? does it stay past frosts?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes, Kale too......love flowering Kale! I Didn't grow one this year and neither did Auntie! Wonder if she's missing it as much as I am?

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Leaf Kale is a beautiful subject for painting.
I like it in Kale and saucage soup

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

We planted one (kale) last fall simply for ornamentation in our front yard garden. I was surprised at how pretty it looked there, especially when we got our first dusting of snow.

Mid-Cape, MA(Zone 7a)

I've planted my first brussell sprouts this year and I'm glad to hear that they can withstand frost. . . since I have no sprouts as yet showing! I plan to leave them up as the sole representatives of my veggie garden when all else has been pulled out for the winter. Now I remember that when we lived in Germany and everyone grew vegetables--seeing the B Sprouts with snow on their leaves!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Beautiful shots, Celeste. The sunrise is spectacular!
Mom can't have Bsprouts cuz she is on a blood thinner and it messes up her Vit. K level. Actually, all the great dark, green leafy things she has to monitor. That's all the stuff they tell us is good for us. She gets so bummed out, cuz she loves those "greens" and to restrict them is painful for her.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I knew a nutritionest who said about greens "The darker, the greener ,the better"
Too bad about your mom.Getting old isnt for sissies.

I took a ride yesterday and the colors are starting to come out. Especially reds and yellows.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I noticed a few colors while out on the golf course yesterday.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

The yellowgreens are really bright.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I thought it was the darker greens that held the most Vitamin K.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

teehee

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

You are absolutely correct, Candyce. That's why she has to monitor those greens cuz the vit. K helps your blood to clot so it is working against the blood thinner's effectiveness. It's not that she can't have them, she just has to plan her meals so that she doesn't get too much in one day. Or say if she has oatmeal for breakfast, then having broccoli AND a salad for dinner won't cut it. Bsprouts are off the chart. Sorry, that was probably too much info. The teacher came out in me.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Not a problem, Jan. I just didn't realize ... and now I know!
Thanks!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

You're quite welcome. lol

The red geraniums on the deck still look great. The angelonia also. I discovered this a couple of summers ago and love it. It has bloomed ALL summer long and still going strong. I took a few cuttings, so we'll see. Also I'm going to collect seed. I only have white, but I think there are other colors.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I have lavender pink.... and took cuttings too.... might have to trade in spring if all works well

I took cuttings of a few things I haven't tried before... figured what do I have to loose

I saw a few crabapple blossoms yesterday at the grocery store.

Good idea, Allison.
