Hi,
Can anybody identify this spider? All I can deduce is this does not belong to oxyopes since its eyes are not arranged in a hexagon. But beyond that I have no idea about spiders. This is a very small species probably about 8-10 cm in size. I found it in a hilly region in South India about 5 weeks ago.
cheers

CLOSED: What is this spider?
I would say a Jumping Spider, Family Salticidae,
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=salticidae&meta=
Salticus [guichenoti] looks close, not quite right though

But mentioned as being in Algeria (or elsewhere too?)

"A pictorial index of genera of the Indian Subcontinent Salticidae"

Did you mean 8-10 mm?
Sorry, yes, I meant 8-10 mm. About one centimeter. The Indian pictorial catalog is wonderful. thanks for the link. will compare my insect image with them.
thanks for your effort. i've posted this as salticidae in my blog.
