The pot that the one is in is triangularly shaped. And it has about a 1/2" or so lip on it...lol...It is completely and totally root bound...I'll be working on that one for awhile tomorrow :-)
Preparing Potted Plants to Come Indoors
With what tool? Can you photograph your progress like Sherrie did?
I will try like anything...thank whomever there will be no audio though...lol. :-)
:::::sticking hand up::::: I'm a potty mouth too!

sigh we are having the noreaster that could have been a hurricane. It has rained all day and still is going off and on. I am attempting to dry out 6 old amarylis bulbs and i am going to have to bring them all indoors to do it.
A mess, to be sure. But i don't have to march in it as my daughter may have to do tomorrow and Sunday. The Umass band will be in New Brunswick, NJ and Allentown, PA for the weekend doing exhibitions and I hope it clears up in those places by then.
I am bringing in the one coleus I will be attempting to save and the ammies. and my ferns. they will have to drip out on the kitchen floor for a while, I guess.

My gift bougainvillia is still out on the deck--this rain (same as yours, gardenmart) is relatively warm and the nighttime temps are still in the 60s here, with mid-fifties predicted through Thursday. I've never had a bougainvillia before--my friend didn't want the trouble of overwintering it so she gave it to me last week.
I've also got some potted Rex begonias that were SO happy to be out in my shade border this summer--they grew twice as big. Sorry that they have to come back into the typical dry rooms of winter.
I haven't time for the recommended 3-4 week course of washing with Joy/Dawn, but maybe I can do it a couple of times before F-day (Frost.)
Here's a photo of the bougie (that's what they call 'em) with another gift from the same source, on the left. Haven't managed to ID that yet.
I have a bougie too. Mine bloomed indoors late last winter. Nothing on it all summer except new growth. I am going to prune it back slightly before it comes in.
I clean off the pots, discourage any visible spiders, check for ant farms {we had one of those in a pot one year}. I keep a spray bottle of ivory hand soap and water against mealy bugs anyhow as our jades are prone to them but I put systemic insecticide on those when they come in also as they are quite large. my small hibiscus don't require much in the way of cleaning as all of them sat on stands or the deck railing all summer away from the mud. I have to trim back my ancient family asparagus fern too.
I am also going to put my 1.00 mini juniper in my entryway for the cold season. I intend to make a bonsai of it next year.
Do I have anything to do outside? or what?
Martha
Stay dry, Martha!
such a wet weekend! the slugs are probably searching for higher ground. I gave up on hoping the rain would stop so I took all the bowls and saucers I use in my sunroom and gave them all a scrub out. I cleaned off the shelves and i vacuumed all the old leaves from the asparagus fern up. I am definitely going to prune tomorrow no matter what it's doing outside.

We actually got nothing more than a mist of rain from Hurricane Kyle. Oh well. At least we were prepared ... indoors and out.
It seems you all have your EE's in pots. My EE's are humongous and planted in the garden in front....what can I expect vis-a-vis taking them out to overwinter the roots, and when should I do this? It's my first year for the EE's. They are blowing my mind, still putting out new leaves!!!!!!!!
I dont know what to tell you. Here is my senario. I have mine all dug up. You dont want them to get a frost or freeze. It is time for mine to go to sleep. 2nd step is to get them cleaned off, dried, and wack the pups. 3rd is storage in peat moss in 38 - 50 degrees. Dont use plastic, you dont want them to sweat and rot. Mine are not in storage yet as they are still drying and it has been well over 2 weeks.
Take some pics when you start getting them cleaned off!
Now I am reading they can dry rot! my gosh! Plus use cinnimon on them. Geeze!
