Jonesy, that is an absolutely fantastic photo.
I just voted for it. Today you have dropped to second place, and the Sky divers have dropped to 3rd. place. The hiker in the Canadian Rockies is now in 1st place.

Well, I just voted again and I'm barely a birder.lol Then I made some calls for reinforcements.

That camera prize is certainly worth a little drooling, but I think your being in the finalist group is the real prize. I did just cast my daily vote !!

PERTH, Australia

I've been voting every day (as allowed) but today the link won't open. Hope you win, Jonesy. That's a fabulous shot.

Edited to say that I got in and voted.

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

U got my vote 4 2day!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hey Jonesy,
Noticed you signed up for DG the same day you posted this thread. Are you going to stay on as a subscriber or did you just sign up to get votes?

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

WHOA----Very Valid Question, flowerjen.
I hope we @ DG weren't just "marketed for votes. Why haven't you posted anywhere else? or even posted some of your other pics ??????
Here I thought I was helping a fellow DG'er, but I don't see any participating anywhere. Please don't be a "politician".....only courting us for our votes.......
and I came here today, excited that "we " had pulled you up to a tie with the other 2 tops.............Now , I don't know if I feel so good about that......

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Oh. and I was all ready to vote.....gee...

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

How is that a photo contest if you only go in and vote for a "friend"? That contest is so skewed unless every one that went and voted actually voted for the photo they really thought was best, I've always had a problem with these requests...how can you brag about winning? All you could brag about is you got the most votes, had the most "friends".

Don't mean to be offensive, I'm just really curious.

Klamath River, CA

I voted for the pic because I liked it, and I know how hard it is to get a photo like that. It would be nice if it turned out that I was voting for a fellow Birder, but not a necessary requisite.

Marlton, NJ

No offense but I did not vote for it because as soon it was posted I saw that Jonesy had just joined Daves obviously to get votes. I also went over to Garden Web and saw the request over there by the first time poster.

I voted for the Canadian Hiker.

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

After a day or so with no word from jonsey, I started voting for the surfer. That was a very hard picture to get and it was such a good one. The eagle one can be gotten near dams down south throughout most of the winter months by just about anybody that has patience and a good camera.

San Francisco Bay Ar, CA(Zone 9b)

I do like the eagle photo but I must say that I am very dissappointed in Jonesy for not responding to this thread or making any posts to other threads. I realize that some folks will lurk for awhile before they post to may of the threads. It would have been nice to have some respond from Jonesy on his/her own thread.....especially when so many of our DG family have been ready to lend a hand in support. (mermaid tail swishing in annoyance)

Marlton, NJ

LOL,g_m!

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

Well, This just makes me so very aware of just what politicians do during the campain.
Our world can be a dissapointment... well......nope......Man is the dissapointment......hmmmm.....I better step down from my soapbox...LOL

Melbourne, FL

I have been voting for "Overlook" every day, because I think it is the best pic....and secondly because I don't like this kind of "begging" for votes.

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

Overlook has been my choice, once I began to look at the composition and difficulty etc. The Eagle pic is special, but that did not take much effort Photographically (composition, planning, etc) I am very glad that someone spoke up about this. i had never even thought about anyone... "buying votes", might be a good term for what he/she did......I will definitely look closer at anyone who asks for m vote......Man I hate to have to be suspicious of people....By nature I am a trusting person, and am just shocked by things like this.......I shouldn't be anymore though.

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

I really liked the BiPlane but all that know me know I like close, clutter free photos. I wonder what his son was thinking about when that photo was taken. Big Splash has great colors and of course Canadian Overlook is wonderfully dramatic. I liked Balloons too except for that piece of ballon on the right. Looks like all of them may have made it to the finals on their own merit

Linthicum Heights, MD(Zone 7a)

Hi Floridian ...... hope you are doing well !!!!

I suppose this contest is like 'American Idol' or 'America's got Talent' where you can vote up to umpteen times. A person should only be able to vote one time. Otherwise, it becomes a gimmick contest. The best (in my opinion) doesn't always win. Here's a prime example where the "best" photo, 'Splash', (again, my opinion), has garnered only 1% of the vote. That photographer has to be really turned off by the whole process. Oh Well !!! I do like the 'Overlook' photo, also. I'm surprised they didn't include pet or baby photos, also. They always tend to become the most 'popular'. Winners should be determined within a pre-determined "theme".

Anchorage, AK(Zone 4a)

I read the recent comments this morning and have been think about this all day. I too kept thinking about voting for "American Idol". American Idol is sponsored by a phone company, the object of the entire program is to run up phone charges, not to promote talent.
However, judging of other photo contest have entirely different ridiculus problems. When one of my pictures was included in the 25 picture slide show on the home page of the Great Backyard Bird Count, way back in February, I got all excited. Figured I had to be a finalist. Finally after months of waiting, it was finally posted, "the winners will be announced before the next count". Why bother holding a contest, if it isn't going to be judge in a reasonable time period?

Melbourne, FL

I went back and really studied the photos and I also decided "Splash" is a superb photo....I am also surprised it has so few votes. You are right, these kind of contests are really worthless.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Jumping up and down... Splash was my pick too!!! To get a "clean" shot of that required photography skills.

Auburn Hills, MI(Zone 6a)

you got my vote

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

Arrgghh.......
Boo Hiss....
PLEASE don't let this person Buy your vote!
They appear to have ONLY come to DG and posted here to get our votes!!!
This is a contest for the BEST picture and should NOT be won "purchased" votes (getting lots to vote for you, anyway possible , just because someone is a friend, relative, etc....)

Clinton, MD(Zone 7a)

Just voted. Your are ahead by 1%. It seems its really just you and the ski divers.

edit: sorry Birdie. I didn't see your post before voting.

Oh my...I have nothing against this person and really don't mean to seem to be "campaigning" against him/her.....I just wanted to get the facts out.....so...... ;-)
