I know I have both ... but - by looking at the photos here on Daves, they do look quite similar, at least to the unfamiliar eye.
and of course, i'm thinking of this at night, when the flowers are not in bloom.
Tomorrow AM i'll go out and take a photo of the one in question, that i thought may have been G.O. but may in fact be Star of Yelta.
What are the differences I should be aware of?
**Oh - i did just find this photo, of what i believe is Star of Yelta .... it's really washed out though.
Thanks,
Terese

thanks Ron -- and as i was putting away all the seed packets, i noticed Kniola's Black [Black Knight] too.
same, purple with the star.
Thanks for the article.. i'll give it a good read and hopefully absorb most of it.
Tomorrow I'll take photos ... I am pretty sure I know where all the G.Otts are, as i had them last year ... but this other one, on my north fence ... that may be the Star of Yelta or Black Knight.

Oh -- i guess i need to add......
glad I'm not nuts after all... getting confused with these... they all are quite similar.
**edited to add, again....
the GrandPa Ott seeds I purchased
Star of Yelta and Kniola's Black came from DG'ers.

OK -- took some images this morning.... the Star of Yelta is a much lighter color, almost a lavender-blue, where the GrandaPa Ott is a striking Purple.... if i got them right, which i think i did.
my Star of Yelta does not have the coloring going deep into the 'throat' ... it's white in there.
both are pretty though.
aside from cropping, the photos are untouched.
OH... oh pretty that is!!
schickenlady -- is that GrandPa Ott? very nice shot!!
I love the color, i wish it was a larger flower though, BIG - like Heavenly Blue.
The seeds were Burpee's Tall Mix. Dont know the actual name. They measure about 3" across. The purples were the biggest pinks and blue 2 - 2-1/2". White the smallest. Very agressive, great for fence or trellis. I wont put them on my porch again! This picture was not long ago and they were winding down after they winded up, across, down and backwards and every which way.
Beautiful blooms ladies. I hope to plant Kniola's black next yr
My Star of Yelta was just as dark as the Kniola's when I grew it yrs ago.
So I thought they were the same and mixed my seeds. lol
