This insect drilled holes into my patio umbrella and then sealed over them. I live in St. Louis and contacted our conservation department and they informed me it was a Potters Wasp. I looked at pics of Potters Wasps and this does not look like one to me. If anyone can ID this I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Wasp Identification
I think it is indeed a Potter Wasp. There are a number of them illustrated in BugGuide here: http://bugguide.net/node/view/249/bgpage
Your looks to me to be quite like: Pseudodynerus quadrisectus: http://bugguide.net/node/view/21080/bgimage
but is also similar to Eumenes fraternus:

This is not a good place to seek identifications, it is intended for porblems with adding data to BugFiles.
We have an Insect and Spider Identification forum here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/bugid/all/
and a post to that forum will stand a good chance of help with an identification,

Thanks for the reply. I think you are right about Pseudodynerus quadrisectus this looks to be a pretty close match. I will have to research this insect a little more. What I am worried about is when the weather starts getting colder I bring my patio umbrella in and put it in the basement where it will be warm. I do not want these things to come out in the house.
Thanks again.
