CLOSED: Cocoon? spider something?

Irvine, CA

I came across this as I was looking behind my epiphyllum to see what how it was doing. As I gently pulled the plant back, imagine my surprise as I felt a big rrrriiippp and this web tore, thread by thread, off of the wall.

And what was inside this creatures "nest"? Two horned sacs that I've never seen before, but certainly don't look nice.

Right now I'm not touching the thing, please help me out.

Although I have never seen an exact match to this, spider egg cases definitely are a possibility.

I think its a brown widow, after looking up spider egg sacs. Its texture is pretty unique. Thanks suunto for the comment

A friend here in Illinois was ill and I was helping her clean her house. I found a similar egg sac or cocoon on her window sill. Her home is on a wooded bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. The cocoon was surrounded by yellow bugs which had some black stripes--maybe on their legs. They were in constant motion, all wound around each other, and I was hurrying so didn't get a close look. The egg sac reminded me of sputnik, and was a bit darker tan than the ones in your picture. Had never seen anything like it nor had the owners--both in their late 70's!

ech.

The egg sec was pretty interesting. But once I found the spiders around... made me a little worried. Mine is definitely a brown widow, though.
