My spousal unit has found a few ginseng plants around our property. These are usually vacant wooded mountain lots that will not "perk," that is, a septic tank system will leach properly so the property is worthless. I rather like having these empty lots around - lots of privacy and wildlife.
We have dug a few plants. But I have no idea how to prepare them for my own consumption. Since it is generally thought of as a restorative, I really want to try it as my energy and mental outlook have deteriorated a lot in the last 2 years and the doctors are not finding anything specific, just age and depression.
Any help would be kindly received.
Ginseng information, please
Kawonkamish(Greetings),
The fresh root can be chewed or made into a tea.
~Tea from fresh roots: grate 1 tablespoon of fresh root. Boil 2 cups of water; add grated root and simmer for 15 minutes.
The root can also be dried, turned into a powder and taken in pill form or as a tea.
~Tea from powder: In 2 cups of boiling water, simmer 1 teaspoon of dried root, for 15 minutes.

I have really enjoyed this thread. Now I have more ideas for plants I will start next March.
