I'm 38 today.....

Glen Burnie, MD(Zone 7a)

Honestly, I am usually happy about my birthday. But this time I am a little pensive about being so close to 40. I am thankful to God for my years and want to live a long, healthy and prosperous life. Just feeling a little....I don't know.

Waterman, IL(Zone 5a)

I'll trade ya! Try to have a Happy Birthday anyway. 40 is just a number. It's how you feel inside. I feel 30!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

noobie...

AHHH! To be 40 again! I always thought my life just "began" after I turned 40. Kids were older--I was still young--still playing Volleyball (seriously), but did retire from it at 42.

Now my girls are 40 and 43 and i am 71. Still feel young--still work (at HD)--still garden like crazy--I look OK! Try to keep healthy and in reasonable shape and all that.

I think all the jokes and cards and the "over the Hill" comments make people feel like life is almost "over" when they turn 40! NOT true...NOT true!!!! Like pastime said--it is ONLY a number!
Stay active--think young! You ARE still young!!!!!

Are you going to Jill's Plant Swap om Sept. 20th? Check out her thread. You wanted to go so bad last time. I do not think I can make it.....Have to work.....It is times like these that I wish I was not working....

Here's looking at you--at 71! Cheers!!!!

This is from my recent trip to Latvia. Here I am toasting our meeting again after 14 years with my "forever young" and forever sharp Aunt Marija--who is 79.

"Happy Birthday" but it truly is JUST a number..life's what you make it..only as young as you feel...each age bracket has wonderful moments to enjoy in their own, don't let them go by worrying about 40

(Zone 7a)

What they said...

I'm 48 and still chasing down shoplifters in a retail store. Whatever you love will keep you young.

Seminole, OK(Zone 7a)

I turned 40 this past January and I work in a physically damanding job. I can out lift some of the guys I work with. (course they aren't buff, LOL) It is just a number but I understand that pensive feeling. My dad died at 61 so sometimes I think if I only have as much time as him I better get to livin more!

Funny note the other day I was given a senior citizen discount by a little teenage girl at a fast food place. Of course it was my Friday at work and it had been a hard day but still. LOL I asked my husband if I looked that bad. I am tempted to call and ask at what age they give that discount. I wasn't upset I thought it was funny! I kept the receipt though.

(Zone 7a)

That's too funny, Amber! LOL

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

happy birthday noobie- be sure to take a peek at mid atlantic forum...
I haven't minded any birthday too much yet ,except when my husband turned 50 a couple years ago..(.hmmm, I'll be sleeping with a fifty yr old man? hmmmmm) I'm 48, but I no longer know my age without stopping to calculate it. Wonder how I'll feel about fifty?

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Sally--if you REALLY wanna feel bad about 50, think about it as "Half a Century"....!!!!!
Then think of all the events and technological changes and advances that have taken place in the last Half a Century".....AND--YOU WERE THERE!!!!!! HUH?????

Gita you look great! I hope I look that good at 71! So, tell us your secret lol!
Don't worry about 38, I'm right behind you, I turn 36 this November. My husband is 47 and acts like he's 27. Everyone is right, it's just a number.

Seminole, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh, I got a couple of compliments today. LOL Yea, right. This morning one of my coworkers who is an older guy and I were talking about past work experiences and I mentioned something about when I was 36 and he said " I wouldn't have even thought you were 36, I thought you were in your early 30s." I was convinced he said that because I may be his new boss. LOL Then later a 50 something lady I work with claimed the same thing about the 30s. But she was judging by the type of work I do everyday so I can more believe her.

Kwanjin I work in a retail store and I admire those who catch shoplifters. Some of them aren't very smart! Especially the employees. One of the our employees got caught shoplifting Thursday evening, they made him give the product back and talked to him. They didn't fire him that evening because they were going to call in the big boss that takes care of multiple stores the next day. He came to work the next day just like nothing ever happened thinking he still had his job. That just amazes me. Anyway the big boss got to talking to him and he confessed about all the stuff he had taken. Now he has to pay for all that stuff. Why didn't he just keep his mouth shut? Not too smart. LOL

(Zone 7a)

LOL Amber that's too funny.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

OMG Amber too funny! Criminals are not very smart.
So me and my friends I'm staying with went out to a nice Chinese dinner last night. We get there and Tim (he's lost 60 pounds in the last 1 1/2 years) gets carded! We were laughing and clapping, the waitress looked at his ID and said, "Oh My!! Wow!" He's 34 years old. Then we go to a bar to have a beer and he gets carded again! This time me and his wife were picking on him, it was hilarious!
Today's the pool party and tomorrow I go home. I'm ready to go, I miss my Dave, Tiga, and country living. It's noisy here in a neighborhood!

Noobie, I hope you had a GREAT birthday!!

40 is a turning point. It means you aren't even close to being 18 anymore no matter if that's as young as you feel. It's still young tho. You haven't hit middle age.
I'm now 51 and I don't even care. 40 was sad, but it get's better!

My 4 year old grandson took this a couple of weeks ago.

thanks, guys! I feel a little better. You all are so wonderful. I did have a good birthday. My hubby got me a TomTom navigation system and we had a crab feast and cookout. Had a good time!

Happy Birthday !! I'm glad that you are having a good day. I think you are in the best time of life.

Glen Burnie, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanks, Soapwort. That means a lot. My hubby and I also just celebrated nine years of marriage yesterday (9/4). We were both tired from work, but I made crab cakes and steaks on the grill and a nice salad with maters from my garden. It was delish!!!!

Thanks for all your support guys. Love you much!

South Milwaukee, WI

That's Great !!! Happy Anniversary !!! Next year will be a special one to celebrate!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Happy Belated Anniversary!!!!!! I hope the two of you had a very good evening.
YUM Steaks, taters, and crab!

Seminole, OK(Zone 7a)

I had a very backhanded compliment today. Not really. LOL It was mentioned to me by a coworker that she saw my name in the paper. I asked her to what was she referring to, she replied that it was listed under the "DUI" given portion of the police section of the paper. This has happened to me before. My boss called me at home several months ago on one of my days off to warn me that everybody at work had been asking him if it was me in the paper with a DUI. The girls age listed was 25. This told me they stopped reading the notice when they saw my name. I asked my coworker what the age was that was listed in the paper and she said 25. I asked her if she really thought it was me and of course she said no. LOL This is no way anybody could mistake me for 25, even in dim lighting if they wore glasses. LOL

(Zone 7a)

Oh, that's too funny. I think...Hmm...

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

ROTFL!!! We all take our compliments as we get them :o)

(Zone 7a)

SO true, isn't it? ☺

Seminole, OK(Zone 7a)

A funny thing happened at work. I'm not a cashier but I do have numbers to run the register as my dept has a register in it so I have to take all the computer training courses for the register. We read, listen and take tests on the computer. Every so often we have to take the register CBL's again. I had to take the Tobacco Compliance CBL the other day and it has changed. Use to if a person looked under the age of 27 you had to ask for id now the age is 40. If I had to work that register nearly everybody would get asked for id. LOL

(Zone 7a)

I heard the age had changed. I haven't smoked for years now but my DH does. He got carded not too long ago. He thought it was cool.

Golden, MS(Zone 7a)

'happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you...' lee

Seminole, OK(Zone 7a)

I think it is cool to get carded too only it never happens to me anymore. LOL When I am checking in my dept. and the question comes up on the register for paint or super glue, stuff like that I make a joke to the person that I know is over the age (Are you 18 today?) and they get a kick out of it.

Glen Burnie, MD(Zone 7a)

I still get carded....I guess that's a compliment. I now dread the day when I don't.
