I'm just hoping that while we have it open she doesn't decide to dust bathe.
Help, What to do with this hens eye
Your bird looks so much better!
I also want to thank you and others for this thread. We have a little silkie chick that I think scraped her eye on the way out of the egg. I was keeping it clean with saline but missed a few days and it filled with that icky puss. I tried to squeeze it out, grossed my pregnant self out and quit, fearing I'd pop her eye out.
We went and got the Terramycin (oxytetracycline) cream and put it on and it made the pus hard. I knew I had no other choice. I could see the softer firm pus behind it, just like silkiechick mentioned. I pushed it out with two Qtips and used the cream. She is doing perfectly now! I call her Wink. ;)
Thanks again!
badseed is prego! whre have i been? BIG CONGRATS TO YOUR GIRL!!! girl or boy or surprise?
good job on your chick. i had to drain a pullets head when i was prego. DH coudlnt' do it LOL. but i did make myself sicko too...

Well, we were finished. I had decided not to have anymore once I turned 40. I ended up pregnant two weeks after my birthday! I guess someone else had different plans for me. LOL I'm 12 weeks, due in March. No idea what it is yet, other than a little human according to the little black and white sonogram pics. ;)
I'm glad this thread was here. Squishing that glob out of it's eye probably would have been my last thought. Bleck. It worked so we are good to go! Wink is doing just as well as the other four that hatched with her/him.
;-)
congrats on your baby and your chic :)
josh
Thanks! :)
hey, you need to come over and announce it in the chat thread... #4...
Wow.. Congrats on the baby, the chick and the hen! I am so thrilled all turned out well. Funny how I don't even know you and that poor hen was on my mind several times throughout my day!
that happens heaps me as well LOL
Well glad this thread was a help to others. Defect or Miss Dee as we call her is doing better. The loose skin has gone down. She has a little runnyness in the eye so we are putting some Collodial silver on it to keep it cleaned and kill any infection that might want to start up. Wondering though if we should keep putting the Terramycin on it though.
Badseed you are a brave woman having a baby after 40, I think I'd croak. Of course I have other health issues that would make it difficult. Good luck to you, hope all goes well.
Well, I'll still be 40 when the baby arrives, for another three whole months. LOL We weren't exactly trying but are thrilled nonetheless! Thanks. ;)
I have kept up reading with this thread, and smedekill your husband did a great job!!! And you did a wonderful job taking care of her. I have learned a lot from these threads on chickens!! Thanks to all for all of your info!!
Miss D is doing better. Still some healing that needs to take place but she is looking pretty good. Sure is nice to not see the knot at her eye anymore.
WaHoo! Great to hear!!!
Cheryl ~ Pea
So glad to hear it. Well done. Any chance of an updated image?
How's the little Birchen's eye?
Well, the knot has reappeared. We will have to open it up and get the stuff out again. ARGH!
I think Silkiechick mentioned somewhere above that it may do that before it gets all the stuff out and completely heals. So round two of getting the guck out. She is such a sweet littkle thing. We have lost so many pets lately I don't think I could bear losing another. I hope this stuff, whatever it is, will heal up.
Thanks Smedgekles. Good luck and please keep us posted.
bump for JKJ!
This thread still makes me {{{{Queezy}}}}
I posted an updated pic. Have you seen it?
