A while back someone had asked for this poem. I was reading about the Underground Railroad and lo and behold, I saw the poem. I like it.

When Lilacs Last in Dooryard Bloom'd.
I have always liked this poem-I remember we had to memorize it in the one room school house I went to. It was written about Lincolns death wasnt it?
I have to say this is the only one of Whitman's poems I could relate to when I studied him in high school and again in college - I guess because lilacs have always reminded me of my grandmother. Yes, Marclay, I believe we were told in school it was written about Lincoln. Thanks for sharing, GrannyLois!
