Thanks Fereal! I am pretty excited about my flock. I got 2 eggs yesterday from them (seems low for 13 hens, but maybe they are stressed) and they are both unusual colors. See pic below - they are the 2 middle ones. Kind of khaki color eggs. Of course, I have no idea who they came from.
Two of the brahmas need some salve on their backs cuz they have no feathers in places. I need to get a hold of them and treat them. Poor girls.

New Chickens For Me
I am so jealous, I have 5 hens and no eggs as of yet. Today is 1 week they have been here. I did catch Harry doing his thing with one of the girls.
I am checking, I have my computer room window cracked open a bit so I can hear the squawking when an egg is laid. I will squawk right with her.
I might get lucky today, just went out there and one hen is up in the nest box.
I have 5 laying pullets too--and 3 of them are now broody! So no eggs from the Marans, Welsummer or Buff Orpington. Leaving just the Delaware (small greyish brown eggs) and RIR (large sometimes HUGE light brown eggs). I think I am going to try breaking them up. Is it easier to do early in the broodiness? The Welly and Marans have been broody for over two weeks, the BO is just starting. The ping pong balls are never going to hatch and I want eggs!
I GOT AN EGG!!!!!!!!!!!! she laid it and it is broken on the big end. I will feed it back to them.
Yea! An egg. Are you doing the appropriate dance?
Yes Ma'am,
Awesome Tia! I'm so happy you got an egg. Might've been a bit soft shelled if it was her first, so maybe that is why it broke.
no my new girls are over a year old, and there is no bedding in the nest yet.
Tia,
Wonderfull! You will soon be enjoying breakfast for dinner as you will have an abundance of eggs. They should all settle in soon and start laying. You are obviously doing things right. 5 days to settle in and start laying is pretty good!
