My Blue Silk from last summer. Not as showy as Joseph's, but I like it.

Great! Here's my Blue Silk from last summer. Now why didn't I grow these for this year?????
Darn!

Beth, I had so many new ones I wanted to start this yr. Impossible to start
every single one. I may start one for the g house for this winter. You could too.

Jackie and Beth, your Blue Silks are out of this world!

Pretty!! Looks like we are all in the same boat!! LOL

Here's mine from last summer too...

Beth, thanks for the link. If you could see me, you would agree I don't go lacking for food. LOL Maybe I could add some to a salad occasionally, assuming there's no spider mites, Yuk!!
Thanks Joseph. Ronnie I'm sorry you're in the same boat. LOL

(Zone 7a)

Lol to Crimson Rambler salad, too - Patootie that would take weight off both of us. In which case, y'all could move over so I could join you in the Blue Silk boat - loved it so much last summer, too, but didn't plant it this year.

Did y'all get both light and dark seeds, too? I don't know about you, but I also got both kinds of Blue Silk, some with more blue in the corolla and some with less as in the attached from my garden last year.

I'll also have to start some inside this winter - perhaps we could all keep track of which color of seeds produce which type of Blue Silk Flower?

Ron, you had asked for a picture of the reverse side of the Blue Silk flower to show the rib details, and here is one; let me know if another view is needed for your assessment.

Asuka made a different flower today. The sun came out at the right moment and showed some translucent quality in its tube.

Thumbnail by

I was going wild over the different forms of flowers Akatsuki no Mai presented today. I wanted to keep the flowers forever. The photos will have to do for an alternative.

The flowers seem to be getting bigger in diameter as the season goes by.

Thumbnail by

Look at this one! So different but so beautiful!

Thumbnail by

Here's an intermediate form of the previous 2 flowers.

Thumbnail by

I saw 2 different forms of the beige-seed Shiborizaki.

Thumbnail by

Then there was this one; if you like variety these cultivars are for you! LOL

Thumbnail by

Here is a JMG that I was uncertain of its ID when I edited the image, and now the flower has melted.

Edited to say now that I see the picture online, it is Shiborizaki dark-seed form.

Karen, your Blue Silk is a beauty. My vine only produced the light
seeds last yr.
More gorgeous blooms Joseph.

@Beth

Edible, yes probably for caterpillars, I have had several cats on my MGs that turned into moths after they had pupated in a card board box.

We have a saying in German: Paper is patient. Three of my ebay bargains did not turn into what was promised, so perhpas we need to add an extra pinch of salt before we start cooking...

Joseph, your MG's are out of this world!

All of the blooms are looking great...

The unripe seedpods and peduncles of Ipomoea alba and Ipomoea turbinata are eaten in India, but I'm not entirely sure about how these may be prepared...

Joseph - Thanks for the photo of the outside of the corolla...

I'm not seeing any secondary ribs,so apparently the rays along the secondary folds on the inside are not accompanied by secondary ribs on the outside...

This 'asuka' has a blizzard gene in it...

I hope you can keep at least some of the seeds of the Asuka with the light outer edge
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/Gerris2_1218220256_741.jpg
separated out...looks like 2 completely different plants...

TTY,...

Ron

Thanks Ron, will try to tag the flowers best I can.

Check out Xiong's pinwheel!

My JMG Willow Dianthus flowered up today.

I got the bug to look at the reverse side of some of the flowers today, since I had taken the Blue Silk photo showing that view. Here is another one of Blue Silk.

Thumbnail by

Reverse side of Ukigomo.

Thumbnail by

And reverse side of Akatsuki no Hikari. I hadn't noticed the rays having the lavender color on the front side of the corolla, but it is evident when looking at the reverse side.

Great pictures Joseph, really admire your MG's and envy healthy leaves too.

Joseph - I love the underside of all of your blooms! Cool! I am interested to see what this one looks like of the entire vine or most of the vine: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5470546 It appears to have very skinny leaves! I really like it! So different!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Great pics Joseph. Love the Xiong's pinwheel

Thanks, Helena, Jackie and Becky!

Becky, here is a link to another view of the leaves of the JMG you asked about:

Here's another contribution to the Blue Silk parade of flower photos started at the top of this thread.

Thanks, Joseph. I must've missed that photo! Neat looking leaves!

Love that Blue Silk!! So does the darker seeds produce a dark flower?

I don't know, but these flowers came from beige colored seeds.

Here's a full view of the willow-dianthus flower with the leaves.

I like the way the reproductive structures stand out of the tube on this JMG, almost like a crown of sorts.

Joseph - Thanks for the full view shot of your willow-dianthus! Such an interesting looking vine! How big are the flowers on it? Are they smaller blooms?

I also love the close-up shot of the bloom throat. Lots of pollen in that baby!!!

Ronnie - I just love the Fuji no Monet! The water-color bleeding on the petals is so pretty! :-) And I did enjoy the Brazilian vine that I grew last year! Those "thorns" are quite cool!! :-) All of your blooms are wonderful as are Joseph's!

My newly planted seeds have germinated over the past 3-4 days. Oddly enough, I am growing out the Lady Yaguruma's Kaleidoscope again right along with Moonflowers. I figured I'd try to grow them both together up along my arbor. LYK for blooms during the morning and Moonflower for blooms at night. Only odd thing ... all my seeds along the picket fence have germinated except the 4 Moonflower seeds and the 2 LYK seeds! The Moonflowers have really been difficult for me to germinate this year for some reason. The seeds were from last year's grow-outs and look like normal, healthy seeds. But they just aren't popping out of their seed coats for me this year at all. :-( And I don't know why the LYK is taking it's sweet old time germinating too. Hmmm ...

I had volunteers of Blue Asago Willow showing up in the area around the original vine. So I plucked them out of the ground and have been planting them in a pot all together. These seeds should produce the willow leaves. (I hope.) I have been watching them and some do have odd looking first leaves, so I am thinking those will be the ones showing the willow genes. But I don't know for sure until I start seeing the first true leaves. I am wondering how many of the seeds from that vine will show the willow trait. Does anyone have any experience with this cultivar? (Antoinette is outta commission until her computer is reconnected.)

Joseph, Beautiful Blue Silk.
Ronnie, love the macrorhiza bloom. The Fuji no Monet is a knock-out color.
I've missed 2 blooms on my setosa you shared with me. Maybe if I bring it
inside, I can catch a bloom. With the curtains drawn and
no light entering, perhaps I can trick it into blooming later.
