My tricolor beech has a single branch which has no variegation.
I'm presuming this is simply a reversion and should be pruned off?
I've had the tree 7-8 years and don't recall a reverted branch up until now.
Is it a common occurrence w/ this tree?
Pardon the leaf schorch on the variegated part - it's typical this time of year, at least in my climate.
I don't know about beech in particular, but reversion is fairly common for a number of variegated plants. It's definitely best to prune it out since the all-green branches tend to be more vigorous and can take over the plant if you let them grow.
Personally, I'd keep the reverted part . . . it's a lot nicer . . . no scorching, for starters . . .

Maybe she won't notice the reversion?
In that case, don't say anything and hope she doesn't notice, and if she does notice it don't mention the part about it being more vigorous and taking over the tree, just let it go and see what happens in a few years! LOL
